Above: Fluted planters, $49, from West Elm.

As I wrote in issue 165 of the newsletter, staying home has turned me into a gardening enthusiast. I’ve sown my first seeds! I look forward to getting dirt under my nails! I get to be outside! It's become my very own calming ritual, checking in on my seedlings each morning to see how much they've grown since the day before. If you haven't considered growing something yet (even if it's as simple as a few scallions on your countertop), I highly recommend it.

The best part about gardening and growing things is that it's fairly accessible, especially if you decide to start with seeds. Seeds are inexpensive and dirt is...well, dirt cheap. Whether you have the tiniest balcony or patio, a large backyard (lucky you), or even no outdoor space at all, you can try your hand at growing something green. All you need is a little patience. Here are my hand-picked gardening recs.

China Aster Moonstone Seeds
$4, Floret Flower

I bought most of my seeds from Floret Flower, a flower farm in WA. I love the attention to detail, the focus on "cut flower" varieties, and the resources they offer up on their blog on how to start seeds.

🌻 Some bonus stuff:
  • Reading: This NYT article about the rise of #cottagecore right now. Obviously, I am into it.
  • Watching: Do you watch Gardener's World? It's a British show about gardening, hosted by the iconic Monty Don. Very good and extremely calming.
  • Masking: I pre-ordered this set of colorful, washable masks by Baggu so I can practice safety and spark joy.
  • Laughing: At this tweet, mostly an inside joke for Animal Crossing lovers out there.
