Giving Update: Pathways to Your National Parks

Do the Outer Banks hold a special place in your heart? If you’re like us, you have many memories of beach days and incredible sunsets with friends and family – particularly at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, which protects 70 miles of shoreline starting in South Nags Head and stretching all the way to the end of Ocracoke Island.

This fall we announced our largest project to date, Pathways to Your National Parks, which aims to make all three of our Outer Banks national parks safer and more connected over the next few years, while honoring the history, culture, and coastal environment of our local community.

We are thrilled to announce that you helped us raise $24,500 for Pathways to Your National Parks on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29!

In just 24 hours, you all raised $14,500 in response to our $10K Challenge for Cape Hatteras. With a $10,000 match from our friends at REAL Watersports and Carolina Brewery, that total grew to $24,500.

The total cost for the new Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Pathway is $2 million, and together with the National Park Service we have secured nearly 90% of the funding needed to make this project a reality. That means there is still time to support this exciting project and have the opportunity to see your family or business recognized at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse!

As you celebrate the holidays with your loved ones, and possibly reminisce about your favorite Outer Banks memories, we hope you will consider a gift to help us make the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Pathway a reality next year.

We can't thank you enough for being a part of our Outer Banks Forever community and supporting our Outer Banks national parks!

Save the Date!
We'll be joining our friends from Wright Brothers National Memorial and First Flight Society this Saturday, December 17, to celebrate the 119th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first heavier-than-air, controlled, powered flight!

You can join us too!

A special in-person event will be hosted in the park that will feature keynote speakers and ranger programs, and entry fees are waived for the day.
During the ceremony, First Flight Society will unveil a special portrait of Gen. Benjamin Oliver Davis, Jr., the commander of the U.S. Army Air Corps' Tuskegee Airmen and the first African American brigadier general in the U.S. Air Force, who is this year's inductee into the honorary Dr. Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine.

We'll be livestreaming the festivities on our Facebook page for those who would like to join us online!
