New friends for Walter
When Walter lost his friend Horace, he was lost and bereft. After spending his short solitary life isolated in a metal trailer, with no windows, no paddock to graze or roll in, Walter's first companions when he arrived at Flicka were our two aged gentlemen Horace and Little Bertie.
After we lost Little Bertie, Walter stuck by Horace's side constantly, then sadly last month we also lost Horace. We were worried about poor Walter, and decided to introduce him into our small herd of French donkeys. To our delight it has been the perfect match.....Walter has fast become best friends with Pierre (pictured bottom right relaxing in the sunshine).
The four French donkeys, rescued late last year from horrific conditions on their way to the meat markets on the continent, are settling in well to their life in Cornwall. Louis and Rocky (pictured left and middle in the photo below alongside Claude) are a little more nervous than the others and still wearing headcollars so we can bring them in and out easily for the vet, farrier and dentist. Rocky is the largest, a stunning donkey with a majestic head and the most enormous ears! He is also the most nervous having sadly lost his friend to the meat man before we could save him. These handsome boys are growing in confidence by the day and their delightful personalities are shining through as they become more trusting and affectionate.
