During the months of June and July, AISS Scholars attended classes at Samueli Academy, Chapman University, and Edwards Lifescience. Monday classes were hosted at Samueli Academy by Mr. Nino Polizzi, Engineering Instructor, who taught the scholars about electricity and circuits. We had the opportunity to build a circuit that used 2 triple-A batteries to power a mini LED bulb by performing welding and calculating resistance in a circuit.
At Chapman University, we engaged with guest speakers and worked on our educational business plans. Dr. Gregory Weiss, Department of Chemistry at the University of California Irvine, spoke to scholars about his experiences at the University of California Berkeley, as well as Harvard University. He has worked managing his own research lab and has engaged in 5 startup companies.
