What we talked about this week
- Commissioners Berschauer and Starrett passed a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance last Thursday. What does that mean? It forbids any County staff or agents (including the Sheriff and District Attorney? It's unclear: they are technically State officials, as the position is a State elected office for the district of Yamhill County) from enforcing any state gun laws passed after February of this year. Zero gun laws have passed yet this year.
- 3 Newberg School Board candidates have coalesced into a 'Save Our Schools Newberg' slate, supported by Community Oriented Public Servants PAC (COPS PAC). Progressive Yamhill supports a more diverse set of candidates, and encourages you to look at Tai Harden & incumbent Ines Peña.
- The Yamhelas Westsider Trail continues to be a topic of discussion in Board of Commissioners meetings, where Commissioners Berschauer and Starrett are wrestling with the repercussions of cancelling the Land Use Permit process for the Trail, including cancelled grants which may require the County to repay over $1,000,000. Did you see our video pointing out the change of heart Commissioner Berschauer has experienced since her decisive February 4th vote to kill the Trail? The big question now is whether Commissioners will entertain discussions with Chehalem Park & Recreation District, which has indicated an interest in acquiring the former rail right-of-way. Tune in Thursday morning at 10am to see what happens next! You might also want to donate to the Friends of Yamhelas Westsider Trail, and you should definitely join the 3,200 others who have signed this petition!
