What we've been talking about

  • Newberg School Board members Brandy Penner and Rebecca Piros resigned last week. Read reporting from KOIN, KGW, the News-Register, and the Newberg Graphic. In other NSD news, the Newberg Graphic reported there has been "a 15% decline in enrollment over the past four years" and that combined with higher labor costs, could mean "more Newberg School District staff may be on the chopping block." Read the article here.
  • Deputy County Clerk, Keri Hinton, was appointed by the Yamhill County Board of Commissioners to serve as the interim Yamhill County Clerk. Hinton has not said if she will accept. Clerk Brian Van Bergen left his elected position for a job with Marion County. Elections for a new clerk will happen in November. Interested candidates have until mid-August to file to run for the office. Read reporting from the News-Register here.

Progressive Yamhill is a non-partisan group with a regional focus on Yamhill County politics at the city, county, and state level, as well as a vehicle to connect with neighbors on issues and actions at a federal level.  Our goal is to connect, educate, inform, and actively participate in the creation of a local community that shares and supports our mission.  You can learn more about our origin, and our group, at our website.

Our growing Facebook Group is 'Private', meaning that unless you are in the group, you cannot search for it, see anything anyone posts in it, or even find out who else is a member.  We take our members privacy seriously and have a team of moderators who vet every new member before adding them.  In order to enable new members to find us, and to communicate key events to the public, we also have a public Facebook Page.  If you would like to join, and the first link didn't work for you, use the second link and follow the instructions to let us know!
We Are engaged residents and friends of Yamhill County who believe in developing a community that both respects and creates equity, inclusion, safety and freedom from fear & hate for all. Our purpose is to educate & inform, and to actively participate in the creation of a local climate in support of these beliefs.
