WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT THIS WEEK

Our little Linfield College is now a grown up Linfield University!  Now it's time for their Board of Trustees to do a little growing up, too.  From the most recent News Register story

Jubb, 71, of Vancouver, Washington, was indicted after being accused of sexually abusing four students. He is charged with one felony count of first-degree sexual assault and seven misdemeanor counts of third-degree sexual assault.

The felony charge and two others stem from allegations made by AnnaMarie Motis, then a 21-year-old student representative to the trustees, who said Jubb touched her under her clothing following a trustees’ board dinner and gathering on Feb. 15, 2019. She said he then invited her to “end the night” with him at the Atticus Hotel in downtown McMinnville, where he was staying.

Linfield students and alumni have organized a rally in support of the students, TONIGHT on the sidewalk along the Linfield oak grove at 5pm.

We Talked a Lot About Anti-Racism
There is a new schedule of BLM protests in Mcminnville starting this week! Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm at the corner of 2nd and Adams. Yes, there's a Facebook Event for the series.  Thanks to community members for stepping up to keep this movement visible locally!  In Newberg, there will be an event this Saturday on the same theme, at the Chehelem Cultural Center at 6pm - details in the Events listing below.

Newberg School Board held a special session to allow public comment for their Anti-Racism Resolution that they passed.  You can read a local blogger summary of the meeting here.  Speaking of Newberg, the City Council has an official vacancy in District 4, after Councilor Johnson's resignation.  The city is accepting applications until August 5th at 5pm.  District 4 is the Northwest corner of Newberg, north of Mountainview Rd, to North Valley Road.

A petition has been created asking the McMinnville School Board to adopt a similar Anti-Racism Resolution as Newberg School Board.  You can find the petition here.  And, speaking of McMinnville High School, did you see the interview with Kacey Lee, one of the organizers of McMinnville's hugely successful Black Lives Matter protest in June?  Thanks to Local Matters with Ken Moore for spotlighting her!

Finally, a webinar event happened called How To Talk about Race in Rural Communities hosted by Lanicia Duke from the Oregon Coast.  Please watch it here.

Other News!
