Newberg City Council Update
Newberg has two open positions due to resignation - District 4 and District 5.  Local business owner Maryl Kunkel has announced her candidacy for District 5!  Her opponents currently registered are Nick Morace, who ran a failed mayoral race in 2018, and Shy Summer Montoya. No one has filed yet for the November Election for District 1.  Denise Bacon currently holds the District 3 seat, and has filed for re-election, her opponent is Adam McGuffieKeep track here.

Other News Around The County
Following a protest by students and community members demanding his resignation, Linfield Board of Trustees chair David Baca has refused to step down.  According to the News Register, Baca insists that some of the alleged harassment claims against Trustees are misinformation (Baca himself has not been accused).  However, the Linfield student paper uncovered details of pages being removed from a report shared with Trustees. You can read the unredacted report here.
Students are organizing a protest in late August, and are asking for fundraising help to purchase t-shirts to wear during orientation week.  Can you help?

Yamhill County Employees are asking community support after the County announced that over 350 employees will have to start paying $115 more per month for health insurance. You can write a letter to the County.

There is a new BIPOC connection group on facebook.  If you identify as Black, Indigenous or a person of color and lives and works in Yamhill County….check out this facebook group here.
