Report on Main Street Events

Main Street Fundraisers

It has been a busy month at Main Street!  We are actively engaged in capital fundraising and have held three private events to raise funds and friends for Main Street.

The first event was held on October 16 at Tony & Joe's Seafood Place in Washington, DC, in honor of Steve Friedlander, the late father of Main Street co-founder Jillian Friedlander Copeland. This event focused on raising funds for the kitchen and multimedia room at Main Street, which will be named "Poppy Boy's Kitchen" in memory of Steve. (See a rendering of this beautiful room in the project updates below!)

On October 23, Larry Jacobs and his mother, Shirley, hosted a wonderful dinner at Shirley's home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. On November 2, Whitney Albrittain hosted friends and family for another fantastic event at her home in Arlington, Virginia. Many thanks to these gracious hosts, to those who attended to learn about Main Street and to all who have generously contributed.

We welcome new ideas for ways to raise funds and friends for Main Street. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of hosting an event, contact us at

Main Street Member Events

Main Street will be a beautiful building where all may gather, learn, play and thrive…but Main Street is bigger than a physical structure. It is a new way of thinking. Main Street’s goal is to redefine inclusivity. And that is just what we are doing until our dream of our home at Main Street becomes a reality!  Thank you to our members who joined us for our membership events in October and November.

On October 29, around 40 members joined us for bowling, bocce and good food at Pinstripes in North Bethesda. Thanks to member Karen Brown Beveridge for organizing this fun afternoon!

On November 1, around 20 Main Street moms came together for coffee and conversation. Thanks to member and host Karen Huizinga for providing a warm welcome on a chilly morning!

Do you have ideas for future Main Street events?  Or would you like to host or organize an event? Contact us at info@mainstreetconnect.org. Let's build our community together!

Project Updates

The design of the Main Street building is nearing completion. The first floor community space will include a coffee shop, cyber lounge, wellness center, classroom, art wall, multimedia room and kitchen. We are excited to share this new rendering of Poppy Boy’s Kitchen and multimedia room, which will provide endless opportunities for meaningful social and educational activities - and of course a few Redskins games!

Additional renderings of the Main Street building are available on the Main Street website.
