Can Change Happen?

After 400 years since the first captured Africans were brought to this country, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, Civil Rights legislation, and so many other efforts; can real change happen? Will the divisive issues related to the color of a person's skin continue forever? In this so called, "United" States of America, why do these ethnic differences amongst one race--the human race, continue?  Will it ever change? How? When?

The most important question is "What are we to do" or "What am I to do?"

Together is Better Alliance is making an effort to change hearts, minds, and thinking around the issue of race. We met with friends and partners in May to discuss continued engagement and collaborative opportunities.

Due to partnerships in communities around the Chicagoland area, we are establishing TiBA Local affiliates. Currently, we are working with groups in Glen Ellyn, La Grange, and Aurora.

These groups are called Together is Better Alliance Locals or TiBA Locals. Currently, Nancy McKee of Glendale Heights and Yvor Stoakley of Westmont will be co-leading the TiBA Local Glen Ellyn/Naperville affiliate. Both are leaders with a group called Pizza & Social Justice that is very active in the western suburbs in the Glen Ellyn area. They meet regularly and discuss issues related to systemic racism. They recently led a group of about 25 people to the Purchased Lives: the American Slave Trade from 1808 to 1865 exhibit at the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie.
The TiBA Board, volunteers, and affiliates are discussing, reading, and contemplating "Why" and "How" systemic racism continues to manifest itself in our society and "What" we can do to make a positive difference. Won't you join us?
