Why Didn't I Know That?
We typically feature upcoming events here but we think we've shared enough about what's going on so we're going to ask each of you to search Google, newspapers, public announcements and find a local celebration of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, a Union General rode into Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended, and slaves had been freed. This is a way that you can join us on our mission of breaking down the resistance to confronting our country's shared legacy of slavery.
Well, we do have one announcement. TiBA and other partners and individuals are partnering with ComeUnity to make Race Amity Day an IL-recognized holiday on Sun., 6/13. A request has been sent to Gov. Pritzker and we are trying to get 100 signatures of support via change.org. Please click here
to sign the petition.
: We're looking for volunteers. Is anybody interested in being part of our Newsletter or Engagement Team? We're looking for those of you who enjoy keeping folks informed and engaged about relevant work that TiBA is working on. We're also looking for breakout group facilitators for our virtual tour. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more. Thanks for your support of TiBA!
