Mixing the Medium
So .. you want to be a film star? You could be exactly the person Banbury Cross Players are looking for. “But don’t they just do theatre?” we hear you cry. Of course! But in our April 2018 production, we’re mixing our mediums.
Alan Bennett’s People has a hilarious scene in the second Act where a film crew (of a less than salubrious nature) invade the house
– taking full advantage of a historic four-poster bed.
BCP are looking for a 20-something film star. Colin is handsome, athletic ... and a teeny bit moody – particularly when faced with his co-star, luscious Latvian Brit, and her insistence on knitting between scenes.
Alan Bennett successfully blends satire with nostalgia to produce a
thought-provoking piece of theatre in People.
Dorothy’s inheritance is an old, run-down mansion she can’t afford to maintain. The play follows various attempts by her and her sister to resolve the issue. These include “gifting” to the National Trust; selling to a property developer, and film-making. Underground rumblings from a disused coalmine, the discovery of a large number of (still full) chamber pots and an untimely visit from the Bishop make for a show full of fruitful conflict.
Production dates are 25th – 28th April 2018 at The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury. You will need to be available from Sunday 22 April 2018 for Technical and Dress Rehearsals. You do not need to be a member to audition but will be required to join if cast. Click for further details on BCP membership.
