Dear <<First Name>>,

Representing and being of service to you is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

As 2021 winds to a close, the pandemic continues to test each of us like never before. These challenges aside, my team and I are mission-driven, and we continue to work relentlessly to deliver results on your behalf - and we’ve been able to make remarkable progress in 2021.

As we approach the end of the year, I look forward to sharing these accomplishments with you. Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect:

500+ new beds or units brought online for people experiencing homelessness

3,000 COVID-19 vaccines administered to residents and workers of Council District 13, with a focus on historically underserved communities

198 small businesses and theaters assisted via grants funded by my office

2,798 tons of illegal dumping collected, helping to keep our neighborhoods clean

65 lane miles of streets resurfaced or slurried, helping to keep our streets safe

These data points are just a snapshot, and only begin to scratch the surface of our work on your behalf this past year.

I’m also proud that Council District 13 continues to far outpace the rest of the City in our inventory of permanent units for homeless individuals, and in the construction of new affordable housing.

If you’ve been supportive of any of these efforts, in any way, shape or form: thank you.

Throughout December, I’ll be dedicating newsletter messages to topics that touch on our efforts to make Los Angeles a more livable, sustainable and equitable City - through groundbreaking legislation, on-the-ground services and resources, and putting compassion into action.

These topics include: our leadership to address the homelessness crisis; our efforts to fight climate change and create a Greener LA that’s powered by 100% renewable energy and good-paying jobs; bringing an unarmed model of crisis response to Los Angeles; and prioritizing public works and constituent services.

Be on the lookout for these messages and more in your inbox this month. And, of course, you can always contact our team for anything - (213) 207-3015. We’re at your service, and we’re always here to help.

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

ECHO PARK - The Council District 13 Clean Team is at your service and ready to help you with your beautification needs. Just this week, the Team removed illegally dumped items from Bonnie Brae Street between Park Avenue and Montrose Street. The result improves the pedestrian experience for local residents who use these streets regularly. If you know of an area in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.

POSTPONED: HIFI EASTERN GATEWAY OPENING

HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN - Unfortunately, due to unforeseen challenges related to labor and supply chain issues affecting our nation and world, the Historic Filipinotown Eastern Gateway project will be delayed. The event originally scheduled for Saturday, December 11th will be postponed to a later date. If you RSVPed for the event, we will be sending you more information as it becomes available. Please RSVP or visit bit.ly/HiFiGateway to continue to receive updates.

INVESTING IN OUR CHILDREN AND PUBLIC SPACES

ECHO PARK - On Thursday, Councilmember O'Farrell cut the ribbon on a brand new playground at the Echo Park Recreation Center for local residents and families. This is just the latest example of our commitment to public spaces. Improvements include: new shade structures to cool down the playground equipment; new slides; climbing walls; and a fully upgraded rubber play surface. Thank you to the Department of Recreation and Parks, the staff at the Echo Park Recreation Center, and the many parents and children who worked with us to make this project happen. Enjoy!

MAITAINING OUR STREET INTEGRITY

HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN - This week, we wrapped four major resurfacing projects in Echo Park and Historic Filipinotown in partnership with StreetsLA - with more on the way. Each day, we're at your service and ready to help make a difference in your neighborhood, block by block. Please contact us if you need assistance.

OBSERVING WORLD AIDS DAY

KOL AMI - On World AIDS Day, Councilmember O'Farrell was honored to join Congregation Kol Ami, Rabbi Denise Eger and other community leaders to remember the lives and loved ones we lost to this deadly disease. They will not be forgotten and stay with us in our hearts.

SAVE THE DROP LOS ANGELES!

LOS ANGELES - The ongoing drought requires all of us to do our part to conserve water. Please remember that the City of Los Angeles' Water Conservation Ordinance is in effect, limiting outdoor watering with sprinklers to three days a week, up to 8 minutes per station. For more information about these rules and how you can make a difference in your household, please visit savethedropla.com.
