Dear <<First Name>>,

As we kick off Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I hope you will be able to join me this Saturday, May 7 at 4pm to celebrate the unveiling of the Historic Filipinotown Eastern Gateway at Beverly Boulevard and Belmont Avenue in Historic Filipinotown!

Officially called ”Talang Gabay - Our Guiding Star,” Los Angeles’ latest cultural marker was designed by renowned Filipino artist Eliseo Art Silva and pays tribute to the incredible contributions of the Filipino community in our city and beyond.
The event will include a ribbon-cutting, lighting ceremony, music, dance performances, appearances from celebrities and - most importantly - leaders from the incredible community of Historic Filipinotown.

I'm proud to have helped lead the way in making this happen, and I’d be honored to celebrate this moment with all of you!

Residents interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP at bit.ly/HiFiGatewayOur team will follow up with additional details later this week.

I’ll see you next Saturday, May 7, at 4pm at Beverly Boulevard and Belmont Avenue!

Mabuhay!

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

GREATER WILSHIRE- The Council District 13 Clean Team was hard at work this week being of service to you. Just one example includes the removal of furniture and other illegal dumping from a parkway at Gramercy Place and Fourth Street, enhancing the pedestrian experience for local residents. Please contact our team if you know of an area in need of service - (213) 207-3015
CREATING A PLASTICS-FREE LOS ANGELES
CITY HALL - On Wednesday, Councilmember O'Farrell led a landmark vote to phase out single-use plastics at City facilities and events, setting the table for a *citywide ban on polystyrene products* and a plastics-free Los Angeles. Building on Councilmember O'Farrell's straws-on-request ordinance from 2019 and last year’s utensils-on-request ordinance, Wednesday's action makes clear that there is no more time to waste in our fight to rid Los Angeles of plastic’s harmful effects. STANDING WITH OUR ARMENIAN COMMUNITY
LITTLE ARMENIA - We will never forget. On Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, Team Mitch marched with Los Angeles’ Armenian community to remember the more than 1.5 million Armenians whose lives were systematically taken away in one of history’s greatest acts of evil. We keep their memories with us so that we may tell their stories and stand against hatred in all forms.
DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY
LOS ANGELES - There is nothing compassionate about enabling people to live and die in squalor on our City streets. The devastating rise in overdose deaths among Los Angeles County's homeless population reinforces the need to move people experiencing homelessness into safe, secure managed environments with addiction and mental health services as quickly and humanely as possible. The prevalence of synthetic opioids like fentanyl - that are deadlier and more potent than ever before - leaves us no other choice but to act. The 13th District is going to continue its leadership on this issue, which includes: standing up permanent and interim housing solutions; successfully moving hundreds of people indoors with wraparound services; producing more affordable housing than any area outside of the Downtown vicinity; launching an unarmed model of crisis response; and demanding more accountability from our partners at the County, who are responsible for providing mental health and substance abuse services to all of us, including people experiencing homelessness. The City Council recently approved Councilmember O'Farrell's motions to improve service delivery to unhoused Angelenos - and we're going to keep pushing for better results. Too many lives are at stake.
WE'RE ALWAYS HERE FOR OUR SENIORS
13TH DISTRICT - As we put the worst of the pandemic behind us, Team Mitch has enjoyed returning to our senior apartments and centers across the district, offering services and other resources. This week, we welcomed back seniors to St. Barnabas Senior Services in Echo Park and visited residents at a complex in East Hollywood, where we shared updates about our ongoing work to support Los Angeles' seniors. This is our focus each day.
