Dear <<First Name>>,

Two weeks ago, my team, in partnership with professional outreach practitioners and other partners, helped move 18 unhoused individuals living on Selma Avenue into safe, transitional housing.

These efforts greatly reduced a large encampment and addressed safety and accessibility concerns along this important corridor.

Keeping my commitment, by putting compassion in action, I can share that we have now successfully placed an additional 10 unhoused individuals into safe, transitional housing.

Since the beginning of March, that’s 28 unhoused people in Hollywood who are now in safe environments getting the services they need. They left deplorable conditions and now have a roof over their heads with 24/7 access to restrooms and hygiene facilities; meals; and focused attention from caring, dedicated service professionals.

Some were placed into housing solutions I have brought online in the last few years, including two new Tiny Home Villages, comprising more than 100 transitional housing beds, and one of the City’s FIRST A Bridge Home housing sites.

We’re not backing down and we’re not giving up.

There is nothing compassionate about enabling people to live or die in squalor on streets and sidewalks. We will keep working to place people on a pathway to wellness and stability, while ensuring that our public spaces are safe and accessible for everyone

To learn more about these efforts, please contact my team at (213) 207-3015.

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

GLASSELL PARK - This week, the Council District 13 Clean Team targeted illegal dumping sites across Glassell Park, removing more than one ton (!) of debris and trash. The work was done in partnership with Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment, greatly improving the pedestrian experience for local residents. If you know of an area in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.

BRIDGING COMMUNITIES: TAYLOR YARD BRIDGE

LOS ANGELES RIVER - The Taylor Yard Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge is officially OPEN! A 30 year story of community advocacy and resiliency, the Bridge finally connects the communities of Elysian Valley and Cypress Park - upholding a decades-long promise made by the former Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity along the Los Angeles River. This is also the THIRD multimodal bridge along the Los Angeles River that we have completed under our watch. You can learn more about the Bridge's story here. Together, we’re bridging communities. See you at the River!

STANDING AGAINST AAPI HATE

LOS ANGELES - On Wednesday, we remembered the eight lives that were tragically taken one year ago in the Atlanta Spa Shootings. The victims included parents, siblings and grandparents - all deeply loved but never forgotten. Many were immigrants and AAPI women who, like many of us, left their homelands in search of opportunity and a better life for their families - only to die in a senseless act of hate and violence at the hands of a shooter with easy access to guns, something with which we are all too familiar. Together, with their families and other survivors, we remember the victims and keep their names in our hearts: Daoyou Feng; Delaina Ashley Yaun; Hyun Jung Grant; Paul Andre Michels; Soon Chung Park; Suncha Kim; Xiaojie Tan; and Yong Ae Yue. Los Angeles’ 13th District is home to many in our local AAPI community. We are proud to represent you, to fight alongside you, and to stand in solidarity with you. We stand firmly against hatred and anti-Asian violence; we stand with immigrants; and we stand with the victims and survivors of preventable gun violence. Every day, we will continue to work against the forces of hate and build a better world for all of us.

SUPPORTING OUR LATINA-OWNED BUSINESSES

ATWATER VILLAGE - Our Latino and Latina-owned businesses are the engine of our local economy, employing thousands of workers and contributing greatly to the 13th District's culture and diversity. In celebration of Women's History Month, Councilmember O'Farrell visited Lydia's Beauty Shop - a neighborhood institution that has been providing affordable, quality haircuts to local residents for more than 40 years. Owned and operated by Rosario Aguilera, we wish her many more years of success. Please do your part and continue to support great businesses like Lydia's Beauty Shop.

AT YOUR SERVICE: WEEKLY SNAPSHOT

HOLLYWOOD - Public safety means pedestrian safety, and it's always been a top priority of Councilmember O'Farrell and our team. This past week, in partnership with StreetsLA, we completed the installation of FOUR new ADA curb ramps in a part of Hollywood that recently joined the 13th District. This will greatly improve safety for pedestrians and people with disabilities. If you know of an intersection in need of a ramp, please contact our team. We’re here to help and at your service!
