Dear <<First Name>>,

Housing people and moving important public works projects forward aren’t mutually exclusive goals, and this week we proved that in Echo Park.

For months, we've been dedicating intensive outreach and services to people experiencing homelessness at the intersection of Glendale Boulevard and Alessandro Street, near the 2 freeway on-ramp. Thanks to these efforts, we successfully placed seven people into transitional housing.

With people successfully housed, this week we broke ground at the location on a major $720,000 beautification project funded by my office.
This project:

✅ Provides significant environmental benefits with nearly 500 drought-tolerant California native plants
✅ Repairs the natural slope to prevent further erosion
✅ Repairs the existing retaining low wall at the toe of the slope
✅ Provides proper surface drainage
✅ Maintains and protects the existing mature trees, in addition to a new irrigation system

This is just one more example of my team’s compassionate, balanced approach to addressing homelessness: moving people indoors through consistent outreach and services AND ensuring our public spaces are safe, sustainable and livable for all Angelenos.

This approach works, and we are employing it across the district: from Hollywood, to Echo Park, and beyond.

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL

HELPING FOOD INSECURE HOUSEHOLDS
WESTLAKE - During the height of the pandemic, Team Mitch launched a monthly food distribution to help food insecure 13th District households struggling to keep food on their tables. After distributing tens of thousands of pounds of fresh and nutritious groceries to thousands of residents, we are relaunching this critical lifeline to address the great need that still persists across our City. If you are food insecure or know of someone in need of assistance, please contact us at (213) 207-3015. We are here to help.
ENSURING SAFE SIDEWALKS AROUND SCHOOLS
HOLLYWOOD - Following Mitch's vote last Friday to ensure children walking to school can do so safely, he met with parents this week to further discuss these efforts. This includes robust outreach using unarmed service providers, as well as offers of housing and services - all done while keeping our public spaces livable, safe and accessible. Thank you Delaney Wright Fine Arts Preschool for hosting us, as well as the parent leaders who are partnering with my team to take the compassionate, balanced approach to addressing homelessness that is working across the 13th Council District.
LET'S REOPEN ST. VINCENT HOSPITAL
WESTLAKE - For more than two years, St. Vincent Medical Center - a nearly 400 bed facility - has sat empty while the hospital's owner, multi-billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong - Los Angeles' richest resident - has refused to come to the table to discuss its reuse as an acute care facility for people experiencing homelessness. This is in spite of repeated attempts by Mitch to meet with Dr. Soon-Shiong. If you believe St. Vincent should reopen immediately and be put into service to address the greatest crisis of our time, please sign our petition. There are too many lives at stake.
