Dear <<First Name>>,

The 4th of July holiday is a good time to talk about fireworks safety.

Although fireworks are fun to look at, they are dangerous, illegal and can cause distress to our neighbors, veterans and furry friends. Please be a good neighbor and refrain from engaging in this activity.

MySafeLA is an agency devoted to educating the public about fire safety. Since its inception, MySafeLA has prioritized robust community engagement to alert the public about the risks of fireworks.

You can help increase awareness about MySafeLA and firework safety by placing a lawn sign in your yard or window. This sign will remind your neighbors that fireworks are not only disruptive to residents and our animal companions, but are also illegal. Please visit bit.ly/mysafela to print your own sign.

If you’d like to report illegal fireworks activity in your neighborhood, you can call the LAPD non-emergency number at 1-877-ASK-LAPD (877-275-5273) or use the following link: complaint.lacity.org/complaint/fireworks/.

For a list of permitted fireworks shows hosted by professionals, please visit this link.

Let’s keep our neighborhoods safe.

Happy 4th of July!

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

HOLLYWOOD - The Council District 13 Clean Team was out in force this week across the 13th District, completing a series of beautification projects. This included Hollywood Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue, where they removed trash, litter and illegal dumping. If you know of an area in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.
ENSURING SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
CITY HALL - On Friday, Mitch helped lead a 10-1 City Council vote to ensure safety for kids walking to school. Here are the facts: we are engaged in housing people - it is our mission and primary focus - with more interim and permanent housing solutions being stood up every day. As this happens, we also have the tools to ensure our sidewalks are safe and accessible. This is the reality, and we will not let the people’s business be disrupted by disinformation and bullying.
STANDING WITH STREET VENDORS
CITY HALL - On Thursday, Mitch was honored by the Mexican State and City of Puebla for his work on behalf of street vendors and Indigenous communities - two groups that are an integral part of the fabric of the 13th District and the City of Los Angeles. This recognition symbolizes so much about who we are as a city: our multiculturalism; our entrepreneurial spirit; and the immigrant experience. We look forward to advancing our work together to make a more just and livable Los Angeles.
IT'S TIME TO REOPEN ST. VINCENT HOSPITAL!
WESTLAKE - As Mitch continues his fight to reopen St. Vincent Hospital as an acute care facility for people experiencing homelessness, he introduced a resolution on Friday calling on the State of California to assist in this effort. For more than two years, St. Vincent Medical Center - a nearly 400 bed facility - has sat empty while the hospital's owner, multi-billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong - Los Angeles' wealthiest resident - has refused to come to the table to discuss its reuse as an acute care facility for people experiencing homelessness. This is in spite of repeated attempts by Mitch to meet with Dr. Soon-Shiong. If you believe St. Vincent should reopen immediately and be put into service to address the greatest crisis of our time, please sign our petition. There are too many lives at stake.

COMMUNITY CLEANUP AT THE LA RIVER
LA RIVER - Team Mitch kicked off last weekend volunteering with more than 100 Angelenos at the Great LA River Cleanup in Atwater Village. We were proud to provide funding and partner with Friends of the Los Angeles River, the LA Conservation Corps, the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council, and Atwater Village Kids Trash Cleanup to make this event happen. Our public spaces are sacred. It’s up to all of us to look after them.
BRINGING PRIDE TO THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY!
VAN NUYS - The Valley was filled with Pride last weekend as Mitch joined Council President Nury Martinez to welcome Valley Pride back to its home at Van Nuys City Hall. Thank you Council President Martinez for bringing Pride back to the Valley and uplifting Los Angeles’ LGBTQ+ community, no matter where they live in our city.
OBSERVING THE 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY
CITY HALL - In observance of the 4th of July holiday, Team Mitch's offices will be closed on Monday, July 4. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, July 5.
