Dear <<First Name>>,

Thank you to every 13th District resident who called-in to give public input at yesterday’s Ad Hoc Redistricting Committee hearing.

We listened AND we heard you

I'm happy to share that the Ad Hoc Redistricting Committee approved a draft map that keeps the 13th District largely intact - we will share this map with you once it’s available.

While yesterday’s vote was another milestone in a monthslong process that prioritized transparency and public engagement, we’re still counting on your participation as the draft map moves through its last steps before final adoption.

Here’s what you can expect in the coming days:

✅ On Tuesday, November 9, the draft map approved today will be considered by the City Council
✅ On Wednesday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 23, the City Council will hold two additional public hearings as required by State Law (no action will be taken)
✅ On Tuesday, December 1, the draft map will receive final City Council approval

Our team is always here to answer your questions - (213) 207-3015 - and you can count on us to share more reminders with you as we approach these important dates.

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

HISTORIC FILIPINOTOWN -  The Council District 13 Clean Team regularly targets hotspots for illegal dumping like this parkway at Lake and Court Streets, where the Team removed trash, litter and discarded items. The result enhances the pedestrian experience for local residents. If you know of a location in need of service, please contact our District Office at (213) 207-3015.

RECOGNIZING OUR HISTORY

CITY HALL - On Wednesday, Councilmember O'Farrell led the City Council in unanimous approval of his ‘Indigenous LAnd Initiative,’ a package of legislative actions that aims to address the City’s past and transform its policies moving forward with regards to Indigenous Native Americans, including: a formal apology to Native American Tribes; an effort to update the City’s seal and flag; and an effort to rename the Christopher Columbus Transcontinental Highway. Our team is thankful to the local tribal governments, including the Gabrieleño-Tongva, Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, and Ventureño-Chumash tribes, for partnering with us on this initiative.

THE CHINESE THEATRE ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE

HOLLYWOOD - Recently, two wildly false and intentionally deceptive claims - “Yes-the City Council Housing Committee voted to recommend replacing Grauman's Chinese Theater” and “Council voted Wednesday to tear down Grauman’s Chinese” - began circulating via email and on social media. The Chinese Theatre is not going *anywhere.* Neither the Chinese Theatre, nor any other historically significant landmark, are threatened by demolition due to the actions taken regarding the City’s proposed Housing Element. Since taking office, Councilmember O'Farrell has supported the designation of 27 (and counting) Historic-Cultural Monuments in his district - the second-most of any Council District during that span. Anyone who is interested in more information on this issue can review this detailed response from the Department of City Planning or contact Council District 13 Communications Director Dan Halden at daniel.halden@lacity.org.

CELEBRATING FOUND OYSTER

EAST HOLLYWOOD - Found Oyster, a local favorite in East Hollywood, is one of the 179 businesses that received assistance through Councilmember O'Farrell's COVID-19 Small Business Support Program. Founded in November 2019 by chef Ari Kolendar, Adam Weisblatt, Holly Fox and Joe Laraja, Found Oyster brings the intimacy and delicious flavors of a clam shack to the heart of the 13th District. Thank you Found Oyster for adding to the fabric of the 13th District and our local economy!

MONDAY: PROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIRED

LOS ANGELES - Starting Monday, November 8, the City of Los Angeles will require proof of vaccination for certain indoor public settings, including establishments where food or beverages are served; gyms and fitness venues; entertainment and recreation venues; personal care establishments; and City of Los Angeles facilities. Please visit SafePassLA to learn more about these rules.

LOS ANGELES MARATHON STREET CLOSURES

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Marathon returns to Los Angeles this Sunday, November 7! Its route covers some of the 13th District's most iconic corridors, running along Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards through Echo Park, Silver Lake, East Hollywood and Hollywood. Please be mindful of road closures and parking restrictions, and be sure to cheer our runners on. Best of luck to all the participants!

SUNDAY: DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

LOS ANGELES - Don't forget your clock "falls back" one hour this Sunday, November 7. Enjoy your extra hour!
