Dear <<First Name>>,

On Tuesday, we moved forward with our vote to ensure children and their families can walk safely to schools and daycare centers by prohibiting homeless encampments within 500 feet of them. Support for this has been broadly expressed across the 13th District, LAUSD, and Superintendent Carvalho. It’s what families and children across the city want and need.

Our action won't and isn't meant to end homelessness. What it is, though, is one more tool in our reasonable, compassionate approach to put people experiencing homelessness on a pathway to wellness and stability. It’s one that balances public safety and safe access to our sidewalks - especially for students, children, and families - with robust unarmed services, interim housing and permanent housing. This is the model that we have been implementing across the 13th District with proven results.

Here I am addressing the false narratives being promoted by a few of my own colleagues and by agitators who temporarily halted our meeting; shouting obscenities, lunging at us and breaching the perimeter of the horseshoe.
Disruptions at Council meetings are becoming more frequent and is an affront to the democratic process. They cannot become the norm.

As a City, we must stand together against the notion that physically undermining our public meetings - as happened on Tuesday - is an acceptable form of democratic expression. It is not.

Angelenos deserve better.

Be safe and well,

MITCH O'FARRELL

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

GLASSELL PARK - Our Council District 13 Clean Team made a world of difference for residents this week across the 13th District, picking up illegal dumping, removing overgrown vegetation and beautifying our shared public spaces. Their work included Drew Street and Estara Avenue, where hundreds of pounds of bulky items were removed in partnership with LA Sanitation and Environment. If you know of an area in need of service, please contact my team at (213) 207-3015
SETTING UP OUR STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS
EAST HOLLYWOOD - The start of school is always a special time and, like every year, Team Mitch is leaning-in to set up local kids and their families for success. Our latest effort, in partnership with Volunteers of America, included the distribution of more than 100 backpacks with school supplies to local youth in East Hollywood. This is the first of a handful of backpack distributions across the 13th District. If you would like to participate, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.
BEAUTIFYING LITTLE ARMENIA
LITTLE ARMENIA - Team Mitch is always ready to lend a hand and help you organize your next community cleanup. Last week, we worked with local residents to beautify Normandie Avenue between Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards, removing litter, overgrown vegetation and other trash. We were happy to assist with supplies, including trash bags, brooms and shovels. Let us know how we can be of service to you!
CICLAVIA RETURNS TO THE HOLLYWOODS!
HOLLYWOOD - Sunday, August 21 marks the return of CicLAvia to Hollywood and East Hollywood. A beloved event lasting from 9am to 4pm, CicLAvia opens Los Angeles' streets to cyclists and pedestrians. More updates to come about street closures and other important information. We can't wait to see you there!
CELEBRATING KENAN THOMPSON!
WALK OF FAME - On Thursday, Team Mitch was proud to welcome Kenan Thompson to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Thank you Kenan for bringing smiles to our faces for nearly three decades and using humor as a means to educate, uplift and celebrate life. For this and so much more, we thank you and honor you.
