Dear <<First Name>>,

Starting this Monday, October 24, at 8am my $3 million rental aid program for struggling tenants will begin accepting applications.

Even as we emerge from the pandemic, many tenants are still recovering from its worst impacts, including rental debt as a result of lost income. Having faced eviction and housing insecurity many times as a child, I understand this challenge acutely. This is why, during the height of the pandemic, I led the passage of the nation’s strongest eviction protections and put hundreds of millions in rental assistance into the pockets of renters and their "mom and pop" landlords.

My new $3 million rental aid program for the 13th District builds on these efforts and advances my work to keep people housed. Both tenants and their “mom and pop” landlords can apply.

Here’s what you need to know before applying:

✅You can apply online starting Monday, October 24 at 8am at cd13.com/rentalaid.

✅Check to see if you live in Council District 13 by visiting neighborhoodinfo.lacity.org.

✅If you don’t have a computer, you can apply by calling the CD13 Rental Subsidy Hotline, Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm. The phone number will be available at cd13.com/rentalaid starting Monday, October 24.

A tenant's household income for 2021 or 2022 must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), and a tenant must owe their landlord unpaid rent on or after April 1, 2022. For example, a family of 2 with an annual household income of up to $76,250 would qualify, as would a family of 4 with an annual household income of up to $94,600.

✅ Both tenants and their “mom and pop” landlords can apply.

My team and I will also be opening our Echo Park District Office - 1722 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90026 - to help renters and small “mom and pop” landlords with their applications. Services will be provided in English, Spanish, Korean and Armenian. You don’t have to schedule an appointment, just walk in Monday through Friday between 9am and 4:30pm.

I will always have the backs of renters and do everything within my power to keep Angelenos housed.

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL
