Dear <<First Name>>,

For many of us, the New Year represents an opportunity to start anew.

This week, my team began the year by opening another Tiny Home Village for people experiencing homelessness, this time in Westlake. This is yet another housing solution in the 13th District that will help unhoused individuals move along a pathway to wellness, stability and, ultimately, permanent housing.

With 56 cabins that can accommodate up to 109 people in total, this new village is the second tiny home cabin community we have opened in the 13th District in less than a year. This safe, secure, managed environment also provides on-site services including restrooms, hygiene, laundry, case management and 24/7 security.
Many of the village’s first residents lived at our Safe Sleep Village in Rampart Village, a first-of-its-kind pilot program that provided a secure environment for unhoused individuals to get off the street and take their first steps toward wellness and stability. The Safe Sleep Village site will soon be repurposed with hundreds of units of permanent housing for homeless individuals with on-site mental health services and case workers.

This is compassion in action: meeting people where they are, providing a range of comprehensive services and housing options, and getting them into safe, secured, managed environments that offer the pathway to permanent housing. The 13th District has more permanent housing units than almost any other area of the City, including projects like Hope on Alvarado, just one of the housing solutions we opened in 2021.
None of this just happens: it takes a village to make a Tiny Home Village - and other projects - possible.

A big THANK YOU to the Daughters of Charity for working with my team and making available the private lot in Westlake that now contains the Tiny Home Village; the City Departments who shepherded the approval process; the on-site contractor who brought this project online in just three months; and Urban Alchemy, our unarmed service provider which is providing on-site services and doing the work to move people off of the street and into safer situations.

And finally, THANK YOU - the residents of the 13th District -  for saying YES to housing solutions, compassion and the balanced, comprehensive, reasonable approach to addressing homelessness that Angelenos want.

We’re hitting the ground running this year and I’m not going to let up. This is my commitment to you.

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL

REMEMBERING JANUARY 6

CITY HALL - On the one year anniversary of the January 6 Capitol Insurrection, Councilmember O'Farrell shared the following statement:

"Adlai Stevenson said, 'Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.' One year later, the mob attack at the U.S. Capitol serves as a lasting reminder of the fragility of our democracy. We must never allow those who would tear us apart infringe on our rights and aspirations in forming that ‘more perfect Union’ enshrined in our Constitution."

EVERY DAY IS A BLESSING

LOS ANGELES - We're thinking of you Tom - today and every day - and in your spirit, we'll keep doing all we can to "enjoy and love Los Angeles." Every day is indeed a blessing.
