Dear <<First Name>>,
More help is on the way to support struggling small businesses impacted by COVID-19.
Starting this Monday, April 18, brick and mortar businesses located in the City of Los Angeles can begin applying for rental assistance through the City’s Small Business Rental Assistance Program.
The initiative will award grants of up to $15,000 or six months of back-rent, whichever is less, to eligible businesses.
Having worked at and managed small businesses before joining the City of Los Angeles, I understand firsthand the challenges facing our local business community. This is why I was the *only councilmember* to create a small business grant program during the pandemic. It ultimately helped 179 businesses stay afloat - keeping money in the pockets of workers and stabilizing our commercial corridors.
Again, the application period opens this Monday, April 18 and closes Monday, May 2. You can find more information by visiting the link below.

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE
EAST HOLLYWOOD - There is no project too big or small for the Council District 13 Clean Team. Following Wednesday's historic action by the City Council to take on illegal dumping across the City, the Team hit the streets of East Hollywood, removing more than *one ton* of dumping, trash and palm fronds in partnership with Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment. If you have a location in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.

BUILDING COMMUNITY AT TAYLOR YARD BRIDGE
LOS ANGELES RIVER - Nearly one month after we officially unveiled the Taylor Yard Bridge, Los Angeles' latest public space has already become a place where community can gather and celebrate. Just this last weekend, we helped sponsor the Elysian Valley Arts Collective's "Illuminate the Night" event, which saw the bridge activated with Aztec dancing, mariachis and other art installations. It was wonderful to see residents from both sides of the river, Elysian Valley and Cypress Park - neighborhoods that are now better connected than before. This is what it's all about and why we fought so hard for the bridge's completion.

SUPPORTING 13TH DISTRICT BUSINESSES
HOLLYWOOD - Having worked at and managed many small businesses before joining the City, Councilmember O'Farrell understands how important our local business community is to Los Angeles, which is why we're always searching for ways to support them further. The latest example includes our visit last week to Sunset Square and Spaulding Square, where we spoke with business owners about how we can work together to create a better small business environment along Sunset Boulevard. Exciting things in store!

AT YOUR SERVICE: WEEKLY SNAPSHOT
EAST HOLLYWOOD - We're creating a smoother travel experience for bus riders! In just *one week*, we installed three new bus stop pads in Hollywood and East Hollywood. Los Angeles' heat, combined with a bus's weight and frequent starting and stopping, often causes asphalt to deteriorate quickly. The bus stop pads prevent this by using concrete - a more rigid and durable material. The result will help maintain the integrity of our streets and create a less bumpy ride for bus users. More updates soon as we see additional bus stop pads installed along our roadways.

WE LOVE "BE U VIETNAMESE STREET FOOD"
SILVER LAKE - We love supporting new 13th District businesses - like Bé Ù - Vietnamese Street Food & Comfort Food. Opened during the height of the pandemic by owner Uyên Lê, Bé Ù - which means chubby baby in Vietnamese - has persevered, building a loyal customer base in the neighborhood and beyond. This comes as no surprise since Uyên also supports the neighborhood. From paying a living wage and keeping menu items affordable to feeding vulnerable seniors, Bé Ù is more than just a restaurant. It’s a community. When visiting, be sure to try their braised pork - a recipe that comes from Uyên’s mother - or any one of their delicious bánhi mì sandwiches. They won’t disappoint. Thank you Bé Ù for making the 13th District home and adding to its fabric!
