Dear <<First Name>>,

Providing quality, covenanted affordable housing in the 13th District for working people and families has always been my priority.

And - progress is being made every day.

Since taking office in 2013, more than 4,000 units of affordable housing have been built, approved, financed or are under construction in the 13th District. That’s roughly 29% of the approximately 15,000 total new housing units in that time frame.

That’s one more household that doesn’t have to choose between putting food on the table and paying monthly rent; a senior who can age in place close to family and loved ones; an unhoused individual on a pathway to wellness and stability; or an artist being able to practice their craft without having to work multiple jobs. These are real stories - and real, positive impacts.

But don’t just take my word. We want to make sure you have the tools to track each of these projects, which is why my team and I have established a new, publicly accessible database available on my website highlighting each of these successes - big and small.

Examples of some of our 100% affordable communities include completed projects such as Hope on Alvarado in Westlake and PATH Metro Villas in Rampart Village, as well as projects currently under construction including the Hollywood Arts Collective and the adaptive reuse of the historic Hollywood Western Building. My team has also prioritized the creation of affordable housing in close proximity to public transit, including the forthcoming Vermont Santa Monica Apartments, currently under construction adjacent to a Metro B Line station in East Hollywood.

None of this is easy. Prioritizing, approving, and ultimately building affordable housing takes hard work, persistence, and experienced leadership.

Even so, the goal is always the same - to provide equitable opportunities for people in need.

I’m proud of our progress in making that a reality for everyone.

Be safe and well,

LOS ANGELES - Tuesday, June 7 is Primary Day in Los Angeles and California. Angelenos can now vote in-person or drop off their ballot at one of many Vote Centers across Los Angeles County, in addition to Vote By Mail Drop Boxes outside our City parks and libraries. Make your voting plan today and don't forget to vote!

EAST HOLLYWOOD - Maintaining the accessibility of our sidewalks surrounding our park spaces is a top priority of Team Mitch. This week, our Council District 13 Clean Team removed illegal dumping and other items surrounding Lemon Grove Park, making it easier for local residents to enjoy one of the 13th District's great green spaces. If you know of a location in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.
HOLLYWOOD - To celebrate the start of Pride and its return to Hollywood after forty years, Councilmember O'Farrell collaborated with the Hollywood Partnership to light over 100 trees on Hollywood Boulevard between McCadden Place and Vine Street. These lights won’t just brighten the boulevard for Pride, but for other cultural events and celebrations as well, enhancing safety for everyone, each and every night, all year round. It's also a big step forward to fulfilling the goals of our Walk of Fame Master Plan - with pedestrian improvements coming to Hollywood Boulevard in the near future. Be sure to check them out yourself before we see you on June 12th for Pride!
LOS ANGELES RIVER - June 1 marks Los Angeles River Day, which Councilmember O'Farrell inaugurated nine years ago to help call attention to this majestic natural resource that is literally the original source of life for our region. For this year's occasion, Team Mitch joined LA River Kayak Safari and local students from Dorris Place Elementary at the River’s Elysian Valley Recreation Zone, where we learned more about the River’s hydrology and natural habitat. Thank you to Steve Appleton and LA River Kayak Safari for hosting and educating our younger Angelenos about the importance of conserving this natural wonder.
CITY HALL - This week, we took a huge step forward against Big Tobacco's deadly agenda in Los Angeles. On Wednesday, Councilmember O'Farrell led the City Council's unanimous approval of a prohibition on the sale of flavored tobacco in Los Angeles, *making us the largest City in California and the nation* to take this kind of action against these products. Change isn't easy and Wednesday's vote wouldn't have happened without the countless hours of advocacy from organizations who have fought day in and day out to protect our children's health.  It's time we put these protections in place for our youth and save lives.
GREATER WILSHIRE - Team Mitch was excited to wrap Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month by highlighting Mirror Mirror Studio, a beloved Korean-American owned business. Known for their professionalism and stellar service, Mirror Mirror will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for your close-up. Our small businesses are the backbone of the local economy. Let’s continue to support them.
CITY HALL - As one of three openly gay City officials, Councilmember O'Farrell was proud to lead and kickoff the City's LGBT Heritage Month Celebration in City Council.  This year, we recognized two amazing organizations who uplift our LGBTQ+ community each and every day: Christopher Street West, which organizes LA Pride; and the Midnight Stroll, an innovative outreach program to Los Angeles’ unhoused LGBTQ+ community, organized by APAIT. As we welcome Pride back to Hollywood and the 13th Council District, it’s a privilege and honor to work with advocates like CSW and the Midnight Stroll, who have done so much to advance equity and justice in Hollywood, Los Angeles and beyond.
