Dear <<First Name>>,

The Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade yesterday, ending a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion. This is the first time in our history that the SCOTUS has granted, then taken away a constitutional right.

California has enshrined a woman’s right to choose and I will always stand firmly on the side of reproductive rights and reproductive freedom, which is why we’re already taking action to safeguard Angelenos against the Supreme Court’s ruling and improve healthcare access for all Angelenos.

Immediately following yesterday’s news, I introduced a motion with Council President Nury Martinez, directing the City’s Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD), in partnership with Planned Parenthood and other family planning nonprofits, to host a citywide summit to improve reproductive healthcare access for women, girls and transgender individuals in Los Angeles.

Here’s why:

The City of Los Angeles offers family support services via 16 Family Resource Centers, managed by CIFD. While these centers offer a myriad of critical family-focused services, ranging from medical to public benefits enrollment assistance, more could be done to work with providers such as Planned Parenthood to increase and strengthen healthcare access for women, girls and transgender individuals.

By bringing reproductive groups like Planned Parenthood together with City Departments, our initiative will address this gap - shoring up access, while fighting back against the gradual reduction of rights for women, girls and transgender individuals

We must be vigilant and stay active because our constitutional rights to privacy are at stake. Justice Thomas has already indicated that future Supreme Court decisions could restrict the personal rights of all Americans including marriage equality, contraception and more.

Let’s not let our Democracy slip away.

Be safe and well,

MITCH O'FARRELL

IT'S TIME TO REOPEN ST. VINCENT HOSPITAL!
WESTLAKE - For more than two years, St. Vincent Medical Center - a nearly 400 bed facility - has sat empty while the hospital's owner, multi-billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong - Los Angeles' wealthiest resident - has refused to come to the table to discuss its reuse as an acute care medical facility for people experiencing homelessness. This is in spite of repeated attempts by Mitch to meet with Dr. Soon-Shiong. If you believe St. Vincent should reopen immediately and be put into service to address the greatest crisis of our time, please sign our petition. There are too many lives at stake.
