Dear <<First Name>>,

Since the start of the New Year, my team and I have hit the ground running, introducing ourselves and bringing constituent services to new residents who now call the 13th District home as a result of redistricting.

One way has been through my “Councilmember in Your Corner” (CYC) events, which we’ve already brought to Greater Wilshire and the northeast section of Glassell Park

If you’re new to the 13th Council District and unfamiliar with CYCs, these events have been a staple of mine since taking office. Rooted in my years as a community volunteer in Glassell Park, these events are designed to make City resources more accessible by bringing services directly to your doorstep.

The tradition continues this Saturday, February 5, at 9am when I’ll host my 79th Councilmember in Your Corner event in the Spaulding Square and Sunset Square neighborhoods of Hollywood - two historic communities that I am now privileged to represent. We’ll be meeting at Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

This area in particular has always held a special place in my heart. It’s the neighborhood that I first called home after I left Oklahoma as a young man in search of the California dream. While that was 40 years ago (last week actually!), these memories are still fresh in my mind and my deep love for this city and it’s limitless potential informs my approach to governing.
Here’s what you can expect this Saturday:

✅ Litter abatement from our Council District 13 Clean Team
✅ Sharing critical City resources and other helpful information
✅ Partnering with StreetsLA to repair a broken sidewalk

Do you have questions, ideas or other concerns? Please fill out our survey so we can be of service to you: bit.ly/cd13welcome

I’ll see you in the neighborhood this Saturday, February 5, at 9am, at Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue!

We’re at your service!

With kind regards,

MITCH O'FARRELL

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

EAST HOLLYWOOD - The Council District 13 Clean Team is at your service seven days a week. This week, the Team removed illegal dumping, trash and other debris from Maubert Avenue between Vermont Avenue and Lyman Place, making a huge difference for local residents who walk these streets regularly. If you know of an area in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015.

CELEBRATING MARY RODRIGUEZ

SILVER LAKE - If you’ve ever lived or worked in the 13th District, then you probably know Mary Rodriguez, an amazing member of Team Mitch who recently retired from a long and impactful career with the City. Mary has left an indelible mark and rich legacy across Silver Lake, Atwater Village and in the communities that were privileged to work with her for more than a decade. While we’re sad to see Mary go, we wish her the very best as she embarks on her next chapter and thank her for her dedicated service. We love you, Mary - and we can't thank you enough for everything! Read more about Mary's impact here.

REDRESSING HISTORIC WRONGS

CITY HALL - On Tuesday, Councilmember O'Farrell - a citizen of the Wyandotte Nation and first Native American on the Los Angeles City Council - led the council's unanimous approval of a formal apology to California’s Tribal Nations for centuries of maltreatment, including violence and neglect. For over 12,000 years before first contact and colonization, there were tens of millions of people in the Americas, whose voices were systematically silenced and erased through centuries of abuse. Part of Councilmember O'Farrell's Indigenous LAnd Initiative, Tuesday's vote is just one piece of a historic set of policies that will place Native American communities at the center of decision making on issues related to our history and future in Los Angeles.

HELPING OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

HOLLYWOOD - During the height of the pandemic, Councilmember O'Farrell created a district-specific small business assistance fund to help keep the doors of our beloved businesses open. This includes Dubai Sauce, Los Angeles' top halal restaurant, which is located right in the Heart of Hollywood. A great spot for lunch, dinner or a late-night meal, please continue to support restaurants like Dubai Sauce, which make the 13th District the amazing place that it is.

OBSERVING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

LOS ANGELES - Black History Month is an opportunity to honor the foundational role that Black Americans have played in our nation and City’s history. As we observe this month, let us recommit ourselves to our collective fight for justice and equity, while never forgetting that Black history is American history.

WISHING YOU A PROSPEROUS LUNAR NEW YEAR!

LOS ANGELES - Team Mitch wishes everyone a healthy and prosperous Lunar New Year. May the Year of the Tiger bring us the hope and strength to meet our challenges and rise above them.
