Dear <<First Name>>,

As we gather for the holidays with friends and family, we are also experiencing a rise in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant, which is more transmissible than the original virus.

The best way to protect yourself and loved ones is to get vaccinated and boosted.

The science, data and medical experts all agree: COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, and should give you peace of mind as you attend holiday gatherings.

If you aren’t yet vaccinated, please visit the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to schedule your appointment today. If you are vaccinated but have yet to get boosted, now is a great time to do so.

Here are some other helpful safety tips from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health:

✅ Keep your gatherings small: Avoid mixing with many different families or friend groups. Don’t be afraid to ask about people’s vaccination status and recent risks before attending a holiday party, celebration, or gathering.

✅ Plan Ahead: If you are attending a holiday gathering, get tested as close to the event as possible. A rapid test, including a self-test, could be used for this purpose. If you get a laboratory PCR test, make sure that the result will be back in time. Since August 2020, my office has been helping to provide free COVID-19 testing behind Echo Park’s Edendale Branch Library - 2044 Reservoir Street, Los Angeles, CA 90026 - Monday through Saturday, from 8am to 4pm.

✅ Stay away if sick: If you are sick, have symptoms, or have a positive test, stay away from others. Don’t host or attend in-person parties or gatherings.

✅ Keep hands clean: Clean hands before and after preparing food. Have hand sanitizer available for guests. Remind kids to not touch their face or eat with unclean hands. Consider having assigned servers to reduce the number of people touching shared serving utensils.

Again, the best way to protect yourself and put us on stronger footing in the New Year is to get vaccinated now.

Be safe and well,

TEAM MITCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE

RAMPART VILLAGE - The Council District 13 Clean Team partnered with LA Sanitation and Environment to complete another major cleanup - this time on Beverly Boulevard between Virgil and Westmoreland Avenues. If you know of a similar area in need of service, please contact our team at (213) 207-3015. We're at your service!

OBSERVING THE WINTER SOLSTICE

CHATSWORTH - On Tuesday morning, Councilmember O'Farrell was honored to join the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians and the Gabrieleno (Tongva) Band of Mission Indians at sunrise for a beautiful ceremony filled with hope. Together, we committed ourselves to elevating the Indigenous experience and redressing historical wrongs. This work will continue with urgency in the New Year and beyond.

SUPPORTING WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES

ELYSIAN VALLEY - Nearly 90 women-owned small businesses received financial assistance from our office during the pandemic, including Clockshop in Elysian Valley. Founded by Julia Meltzer in 2004, Clockshop is an arts and culture organization that seeks to generate social change through the transformation of public space. Thank you Clockshop for all you do to make Los Angeles a more sustainable, livable and equitable place!

HELPING ANGELENOS IN NEED

WESTLAKE - The 13th District is blessed with amazing organizations that have gone above and beyond to help our most vulnerable Angelenos during the pandemic. On Saturday, Councilmember O'Farrell was privileged to join two of them - Clínica Romero and the Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund - to distribute toys, share critical resources and administer vaccines to some of the communities who have been hardest hit by the pandemic. Thank you SALEF and Clínica Romero for bringing needed holiday cheer this year and always meeting the moment.

HITTING THE ICE AT DODGER STADIUM

DODGER STADIUM - On Saturday, Councilmember O'Farrell joined his good friend and world figure skating champion, Tai Babilonia, along with the LAPD Hockey Club, to host kids from the Union Rescue Mission - many of whom had never set foot on the ice before. Thank you Tai, the men and women of LAPD, Dodger Stadium and Ice America for providing an unforgettable experience to these children this holiday season.

A DAY OF SERVICE WITH TEAM MITCH

HOLLYWOOD - Each year during the holiday season, it’s an annual tradition for our team to take a day to give back for a day of service at Project Angel Food - an amazing 13th District organization that prepares healthy and nutritious meals for individuals with life threatening illnesses. Thank you Project Angel Food for always meeting the moment and being a great partner. If you would like to volunteer as well, please visit their website at www.angelfood.org.
