Dear <<First Name>>,

As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and the representative for the 13th District on the Los Angeles City Council, I invite you to join me this Sunday, June 12, at 10:30AM as L.A. Pride returns to its historic roots in Hollywood!

Hollywood carries so much meaning and historical significance for all of Los Angeles and the LGBTQ+ community.

In 1970, Hollywood hosted the world’s *FIRST* permitted ‘gay pride’ parade, setting the stage for other cities to follow. This is in addition to the 13th District’s role in sparking the LGBTQ+ movement across the country: in 1967, the Black Cat in Silver Lake saw the first public demonstrations protesting police brutality against LGBTQ+ residents, two and 1/2 years before the Stonewall riots in New York City.

As we welcome the return of Pride, here’s everything you need to know about Sunday, including start time, getting there and street closures:

✅ The parade route starts at Hollywood Boulevard and Cahuenga Avenue at 10:30AM and ends at Sunset Boulevard and Cahuenga Avenue

✅ The following streets will be closed from 4AM to 4PM on Sunday, June 12:

Hollywood Boulevard from Highland to Vine
Cahuenga Boulevard from Yucca to Sunset
Highland Avenue from Hollywood to Sunset
Sunset Boulevard from Highland to Vine

✅ Selma Avenue will be open to outgoing/residential traffic only
This is a big moment for Hollywood and is part of the annual month-long series of events to uplift and celebrate our LGBTQ+ community. This includes the City’s LGBT Heritage Month recognitions; Lights Up Hollywood; Reel to Real; the restoration of the All Black Lives Matter street design on Hollywood Boulevard between Orange and Highland; and the forthcoming Pride mural along McCadden Place, which will celebrate the first five decades of the LGBTQ+ movement in Los Angeles.

I can’t wait to celebrate this moment with all of you.

Happy Pride!

The Lotus Festival returns - live - to Echo Park Lake in July [Eastsider]
RESTORING "ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER"
HOLLYWOOD - Following the All Black Lives Matter march in June 2020, Councilmember O'Farrell partnered with local artist Luckie Alexander, the City's Transgender Advisory Council and transgender advocates to create a permanent "All Black Lives Matter" street design on Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue. As Pride returns to its roots in Hollywood, we secured funding to restore and touch up this iconic piece of art just in time for Sunday's parade. Thank you, Luckie, for your vision and using your art to uplift trans voices and advance justice.
THE LOTUS FESTIVAL IS BACK!
ECHO PARK LAKE - Get ready! The Lotus Festival returns to Echo Park Lake on July 9 and 10. After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, Team Mitch is excited to see this festival, which celebrates the people and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands, back home in Echo Park. This year, the festival will highlight India and include food, entertainment, cultural dance and more. Visit laparks.org for the event details. We'll see you at the dragon boats!
KICKING OFF PRIDE WITH A DODGERS WIN
DODGER STADIUM - Pride Month wouldn't be complete without catching Pride Night at Dodger Stadium - an event that Team Mitch enjoys attending each year.
CELEBRATING OUR 13TH DISTRICT GRADUATES
HOLLYWOOD - Team Mitch wishes all of our 13th District high school seniors much success as they embark on their next chapter and graduate high school. Attending and speaking at these ceremonies is always a highlight of the year, including Councilmember O'Farrell's annual selfie with Hollywood High students at the Hollywood Bowl. May the road always rise to meet you!
