Hello Bethel Community,
As many of you already know it’s with heavy hearts that we, the committee, had to make the hard decision to cancel all of Bethel’s summer camps this year. This decision was not made lightly and one that truly hit deep for ourselves and the campers and volunteers it affected.
We all have felt the effects of change over the last few months. I have been studying the book of Ruth and have been struck by God’s plan versus our plan. Ruth married with hopes of a family and joyful life in her own land, only to have her husband and all her male in-laws pass away. Her world was turned upside down and yet she chose faith in the Lord. I won’t write out the whole story but her faith led to a renewed hope for her, her mother-in-law, her new husband and all of us, as her genetic line led to Jesus, our one true hope. In similar fashion our plans for camp this summer are not what we’d thought, instead of sorrow we are choosing to focus on an opportunity God has given us in this time of having an empty camp. For the last ten years the committee has been slowly planning, and preparing for a time to rebuild the main dining hall/kitchen/bathroom building. Well I am so excited to say THE TIME IS NOW! We have received the go ahead with some modifications to our original plans that we are able to renovate the facilities and in a time of great loss we get to make something new.
Our ‘Camp Made New’ project details are listed on the website and in order for us to make use of prime summer/fall building days we need to raise the funds in an expedient way. To many; county officials, builders, tradesmen; they feel it is unlikely that this amount of funds can be raised quickly and yet we have faith that God in his timing always provides for Bethel. He has for 75 years used the generosity of this community to meet the needs of camp and so we are asking that you continue to support and can do so by donating online, or by cheque. We also encourage you to show your support through prayer. We may have some use for skilled labourers during this time; if you are able to help in this area, please contact Bethel as we will be trying to organize some work projects.
Though we will miss the presence of all those registered to serve and attend camp this summer, the presence of the Lord remains with us and with camp.
“Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: rejoice.” - Philippians 4:4
