A Word from our Fitness Nutrition Expert:

This Months Topic: How to Enjoy the State Fair without letting it sabotage your weight loss goals!

Most of us are a little sad to see summer at its end but one comfort through that is....The MN State Fair!! We look forward to a day of fried indulgences on a stick, and a wonderful time with family & friends. Although we want to enjoy the fair and have a good time, there are ways to indulge without adding ten pounds to your waistline. Here are a few things to try:

1. Know the day you plan to attend the fair, and plan your workouts accordingly. Aim for an AM & PM workout the day prior, and a 60 minute cardio/30 minute strength workout the day of. This extra effort will help with the added calories taken in that day.
2. Track your steps the day of the fair and have a goal of at least 10,000 steps to keep you moving throughout the day.
3. Be sure to be drinking a lot of water, starting right away with 16-20 ounces as you wake.
4. Plan the foods you want ahead of time and look at what their caloric intake is...pair that with an exercise so you can see what your indulging in and how much work goes into burning that off. For Example: lets say you share a basket of cheese curds with someone, that's roughly 10 cheese curds...there are 750 calories in that alone equaling about 75 minutes of running.
5. Try out a few non fried foods first like corn on the cob, or a pickle on a stick, this will leave less room for those fried options should you choose to try them after.

This is not meant to shame you into denying yourself treats at the fair. Just a few helpful hints to keep you grounded in the face of all that amazing food! The best thing you can do is plan, plan your workouts prior, the foods you are willing to make the exception for, and how your going to make it all a great time!
Wishing everyone a fun, and healthy time at this years Great Minnesota get together!

In Good Health!
