SATURDAY CLASS

Our 2019 Saturday Drop-In Class has been revived, and she’s back with intent. This year, Get Lit is teaming up with the Emerging Writer Fellowship and the California Library Association to publish a chapbook for every single Saturday Class participant. That’s right, you heard correctly. Come to a Drop-In class held every Saturday, and get your own chapbook published!

Work on poems, eat food, laugh, love, and come out a published author. Contact Marcus at
marcus@getlit.org for more information.

GLORIA STEINEM X GET LIT

One of our incredible Teaching Artists, Hanna Harris, shared a stage with legendary feminist, social political activist, and co-founder of Ms. Magazine, Gloria Steinem on November 20th!

She performed for 1,600 people at The Ace Theater and completely rocked the house. Check the performance

OPEN MICS
Our monthly Open Mics have started up again, and this year, these mics are going to be LIT! Each month and each mic has its own theme- and with that theme, a different activity. So far, we’ve had guest speaker Samantha Paige, creator of the Last Cut Project and Get Lit board member, a writing workshop, and a freestyle competition where the winner won professional studio time with Mark Batson!

These mics are only going to get HOTTER, so make sure you mark your calendars well ahead of time to attend! They’re held on the first Wednesday of each month. For more information, contact Marcus at marcus@getlit.org.
CELEBRATING DIANE LUBY LANE
Our Executive Director Diane Luby Lane has been recognized by two different organizations in the past two weeks! On November 10th, Diane was given a Distinguished Service Award for “inspiring thousands of young poets to find their voices” by Beyond Baroque! She was introduced by her first ever student, Jazmine Williams, who moved the audience to tears with her brilliant and soulful dedication.  Then, on November 20th, she was invited to speak at the JVS Women’s Leadership Network!

Diane is a powerhouse, an inspiration, and guiding light for us here at Get Lit. Congratulations to her for being recognized!

WELCOME THE 2019-2020 GET LIT PLAYERS
