The Internet of Women (River Publishers, 2016)

Comment by Prof. Dr. Susanne Ihsen, Professor for Gender in Engineering, Technical University Munich (TUM) and the SEFI WG on Gender and Diversity Chairperson.
"The Internet Of Women. Accelerating Cultural Change” (2016 River Publishers) is a story book by its best. It demonstrates the strength of women in Informatics and Computer Science but as well in management and leadership in industry, science and society. Stories of and over women in SET from all over the world show impressively, that the integration of a gender perspective in science and technology is unstoppable! That is a very good message in times of backlash against equal opportunities for women and minorities.
The book is recommendable for all engineering lecturers to integrate the authors and their stories as role models into their lectures. The message “We would like to invite women for lectures for our next engineering conference, if we would know some” is obsolete now. And it is an optimistic sign for young female students, engineers and researchers, never to give up, but to network and be successful, wherever you are!
More about the book itself together with link to order it is available on SEFI webiste.

·         Interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary engineering programs and learning environments
·         Integration of teaching and research in the engineering training process
·         The role and impact of engineers and the engineering profession in the wider community

Integration is also about connections, e.g. between students and teachers, between students in learning together, and between educational institutions and industry and wider society in the engineering education process.
EURYDICE: Support Mechanisms for Evidence-based Policy-Making in Education

Having a solid evidence base is essential for effective policy-making in the education sector. In practice the mechanisms used to support evidence-based policy-making differ significantly between countries.  This report describes the mechanisms and practices that support evidence-based policy-making in the education sector in Europe. It provides an initial mapping of a complex area. It compares institutions and practices in evidence-based policy-making, as well as the accessibility, and mediation, of evidence. The report also presents more detailed information, with specific examples of the use of evidence in policy formulation for each individual country.
