HHS Proposed Rule Change to Abandon AFCARS Sexual Orientation Data Collection 

HRC responded to the proposed rule change from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), stating it would abandon data collection on the sexual orientation of youth in foster care and foster and adoptive parents and guardians in the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS). The Children’s Bureau published the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Friday, April 19, in the Federal Register. The public has until June 18, 2019 to submit written comments on this change.

LGBTQ Youth Issues: A Practical Guide for Youth Workers Serving LGBTQ Youth

A new publication from Dr. Gerald P. Mallon for youth workers is now available. From the site: “LGBTQ Youth Issues brings relevant research and clinical practice into focus for youth-serving professionals... “The F Word” Season 2
Season 2 of “The F Word” has premiered! This web series follows a queer couple’s journey to adopt from foster care in Oakland, CA. Here’s what we can expect in season 2: “Nicole and Kristan are bringing home their foster kid for the first time. Will they be able to manage the 2 am feedings and all that comes with being a parent?
