Yesterday I spent some time on Zoom discussing this tip sheet and the impact COVID-19 is having on child welfare with our friends at Prince George’s County Department of Social Services in Maryland. Issue Brief: COVID-19’s Impact on the LGBTQ Community

As COVID-19 sweeps the world, hundreds of thousands of people have contracted the virus, and every community has been affected. The LGBTQ community in the U.S. — along with many communities around the globe — will face unique challenges due to its economic and health care situations. HRC’s latest issue brief summarizes the ways in which COVID-19 could adversely affect the lives and livelihoods of the LGBTQ community at disproportionate rates.

• HRC compiled a list of resources for the LGBTQ community.
• These virtual supports for LGBTQ youth and LGBTQ-headed families can create a sense of connection and community in this time of isolation.
• HRC hosted a multi-faith virtual service exploring ways to find positivity and perseverance in the coming months.
• Our HIV & Health Equity team discussed the impact of COVID-19 on persons living with HIV.
• HRC explores COVID-19 and how to support LGBTQ older people.
• The Teegan and Sara Foundation is providing $500-$2000 grants for initiatives working to help LGBTQ communities right now, with priority going towards youth-led initiatives.
