Dear Readers,

We know you are trying to strike the difficult balance of keeping safe while also continuing to do your vital work during the COVID-19 global crisis. Our thoughts are with you, your families, your colleagues and your organizations. Thank you for all you are doing and please stay safe.

For this month’s Field Forward, the All Children - All Families team created a tip sheet with key considerations for serving your LGBTQ clients during this time. Yesterday I spent some time on Zoom discussing this tip sheet and the impact COVID-19 is having on child welfare with our friends at Prince George’s County Department of Social Services in Maryland. We recorded our conversation and I encourage you to listen. I hope you find comfort in the ways we are collectively working to do our best in this uncertain time.

Best,
Alison Delpercio
Director, All Children - All Families

COVID-19 & LGBTQ Clients: Key Considerations

During this global crisis, child welfare organizations across the country continue to provide essential services to children, youth and families. Social distancing requires new strategies for client engagement and creates new opportunities to ensure clients access services without encountering challenges related to their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. ACAF’s new tip sheet offers key areas to consider when working to mitigate these challenges through thoughtful action.

Issue Brief: COVID-19’s Impact on the LGBTQ Community

As COVID-19 sweeps the world, hundreds of thousands of people have contracted the virus, and every community has been affected. The LGBTQ community in the U.S. — along with many communities around the globe — will face unique challenges due to its economic and health care situations. HRC’s latest issue brief summarizes the ways in which COVID-19 could adversely affect the lives and livelihoods of the LGBTQ community at disproportionate rates.
