For delicious young leafy greens, the easy and intensive “cut & come again” growing method yields the biggest harvest in the smallest small space in the shortest amount of time.
Following each variety’s specific packet back directions, sow seed in a well-prepared gardening bed or individual large containers. When plants are 4 or 5 in. tall, use scissors to shear off what’s needed for a meal, cutting leaves 1 to 2 in. above the soil level. Water well and fertilize lightly and plants will regrow for another 1 or 2 cuttings.

May In The Trial Garden
By Trial Garden Manager Lindsay Del Carlo
It's containers galore in our trial garden right now! We are always searching for great varieties that stay compact, behave well in a container and produce a bountiful crop to make it worth your efforts.
This spring season's young plants for container varieties of cherry and beefsteak tomatoes, Jalapeño peppers, and colorful petite zinnias are developing nicely. Growing your garden in containers is easy as long as you use an appropriately sized pot with fresh, good quality potting soil, some all-purpose fertilizer, and consistent watering.
