July In The Trial Garden

We are impressed with these dwarf (2ft.) strawflowers! Truly no fuss flowers, they germinate easily and bloom for months. Their vibrant colors flowers light up the garden and can be cut and air dried, as “everlasting” flowers for indoor arrangements.
We are growing unusual Chile peppers this season: Espelette pepper is a cornerstone of Basque cooking, with delicious subtle heat. Traditional Amarillo Chiljuacle from Oaxaca, Mexico has a sweet citrus flavor with smoky undertones. Our Tabasco plants will soon be covered with the famous small peppers maturing pale green to orange to red. We can’t wait to make our own Tabasco hot sauce later this season!

Supporting Big Tomato Vines

We grow many tomato varieties each and every summer in the trial garden and we've tried many different methods of supporting the tall, vining varieties that grow heavy with fruit and foliage at maturity. Read More and see what works best for us in the trial garden.

Recipe Of
The Month
Waldorf Salad
In an unusual twist on the traditional Waldorf, the mild and fairly nutty flavor of crunchy garden-fresh cauliflower is enhanced with apples, blue cheese, and nuts. Try this with our new Purple Crush Cauliflower.
