We are always searching for new organic varieties and we will definitely be introducing this brand-new kale, gorgeous ‘Purple Moon’ in fall next year.
This powerhouse has tender, blue-green and purple curly leaves with vivid purple veins and excellent flavor. We have been harvesting leaves for weeks, working from the bottom of the plant on up; new growth springs to life from the top of the plant.
We planted Purple Moon in compost rich soil and the plants get plenty of water and sun, and supplemental liquid high nitrogen fertilizer. This keeps the plants unstressed and growing vigorously, and therefore remaining practically pest free! Will be eating this beauty for months. See our other specialty kales.
The summer varieties in the garden are growing fast and setting fruit. We have an entire fence line of ornamental gourds, including Renee’s ‘Wings and Warts.’ These easy, vigorous vines cover a fence or large arbor in no time – and some good option to make a fast shade screen.
They produce small, hard-shelled ornamental gourds in many shapes and colors. They make eye-catching fall displays as fun centerpiece arrangements and holiday decorations.
There’s nothing more luscious than rich red sunflowers. This plot of 6 different varieties of red sunflowers, including our ‘Cinnamon Sun’ and ‘Chocolate Cherry,’ and soon they will all offer a dramatic show in the trial garden.
These well branched plants grow to about 5 feet tall, producing lots of flowers over a long season of bloom.
We space sunflowers about 10-12 inches apart, which allows them room to fully develop their roots, branch and grow to full potential. The flowers not only look amazing, but both birds and bees flock to them.
