Invitation to Intentionality

During Lent and Easter we are walking through a series called, “Unfinished: Discovering God’s Call in the Not Yet”. One of the main facets of this series is the spiritual practice of Vocare. Vocare is practice designed to help you discover and embrace various ways God calls you in everyday life so that even amid the “not yet” of Lent, you can more intentionally live life on purpose for the common good (Cox, Dr. “Lent in a Box.” Church Anew, 2023).

We will do these guided meditations during Wednesday Soup Supper and Worship services, but we will also be posting the questions for those that cannot make it to Wednesday services. Please take time to sit and ponder the questions that will come. They are intended to get a better idea of who you are as a child or God, who our church is as a church of God, and where we (the individual and the church) may be pushed by the Holy Spirit to live life on purpose for the common good.
With all the hustle and bustle of life it is common to zone out. It is common to not pay as much attention to everything going on or what is going on in the moment, because you are just too burnt out. This Lent, by the use of the spiritual practice of Vocare, is an opportunity to use 5 or more minutes a week to intentionally focus on God and God’s role in your life. My hope is that through embracing the intentionality for this minimal time it will encourage a more active faith life in the future.

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22  let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure
water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:19-24)
We invite you to pray for the members of the church

Mission Sewing Day

Mission day, which used to be called sewing day or quilting day, will be held March 16th at 9:00am in Luther Hall.

Sewing experience is not necessary. Can you tie a knot? Then you can tie a quilt! You can iron, or just lend another set of hands for putting together the layers or pinning. We have fun visiting and of course, there is coffee and lunch! These quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief – check out their facebook page: lwrquilters.

We would love to have you join us for fellowship and fun. All are welcome!

I want to thank everyone for the prayers and kind thoughts during my surgery.  I also want to thank the church for the lovely prayer shawl—it’s like a beautiful hug from all of you.

Dear Augustana,
Thank you so much for your generosity! I cannot tell you how thankful we all are for your partnership with us in the lifesaving  message of the gospel! The truth we both know is that there is a great need to reach college students for Christ. There are over 30,000 undergraduates in the Des Moines area who need the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Campus Fellowship's mission on all these campuses is to make disciples who will be for Christ, His Church, campus, and culture. Thank you for partnering with us in this critical work!

Your generous donation of $500.00 will go a long way in helping us accomplish our goal. You can set up a profile on our website (https://walnutcreek.kindful.com/users/sign_in) to manage your giving. We will send a year-end summary to this email address so be on the look out.
Augustana, thanks again for your gift. It means a lot to us!

In Christ,
Jacob Bennett

Help Needed: Church Treasurer

Dennis Lehr has served our church faithfully as Church Treasurer for many years. He has decided to retire from the position at the end of the year. Augustana Lutheran Church is looking for someone who would be willing to be the church treasurer. Our biggest preference is that they be a member of the congregation, but that is not a requirement. The Treasurer writes out checks to payments that need made, keeps track of the budget and money spent using QuickBooks, prints out a monthly report for the newsletter and council to look at, and files the tax reports for the church and its employees. They work hand in hand with our Financial Secretary, Gordon Rehn. This is a paid position. Please pray on this opportunity. It is a job that requires 2-4 days of work a month. Please contact the office or Pastor Reed if you are interested.
Fasting from the Altar: Communion
by Intinction

For the season of Lent Augustana Lutheran Church will be fasting from the altar. We will still have communion every Sunday. It will be by intinction. This is will be done (like in the past) towards the front of the pews. On Easter Sunday we will return to the altar. This is meant to be an intentional practice with the goal of appreciation towards the opportunity to partake in Holy Communion at the altar.

Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover will be hosting the UnityPoint Foot Clinic. Every other month starting March 6th, the clinic will be held from 9:00-11:30 am.  There is  a cost  of $37.00 for the technician, travel and supplies. The technician will soak your feet, cut your nails, inspect that there are no problems and lotion your feet to your calves. This is open to anyone who would like to participate.  The community is welcome!!  If you wish to make an appointment, call the church at 309-521-8127.

March is Eye Awareness Month
You can think of regular visits to the eye doctor as “preventative maintenance” for the rest of your body. The eyes are the windows to the body. They are the only place where your blood vessels can be viewed in their natural state without a surgical procedure. With this visual inspection of the blood supply, optometrists can spot many health conditions and vision problems just by taking a glance into your eyes.

Eye doctors can spot a variety of illnesses such as: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, brain tumors, macular degeneration, glaucoma,  cataracts, various blooddiseases.  Get a dilated eye exam yearly!
