For this month’s Pastor Pedersen’s Points I wanted to introduce the congregation to the new addition to our family, Margo Frances Pedersen. She was born on June 21 at 5:14am.
She is happy and healthy, a good eater, and has a nice and loving big brother. Thank you so much for your prayers!

I will be taking some paternity leave for the next few Sundays. I will be in office during the week, but Pastor Randy Willers and Dr. Randy Mullin will be leading worship for the first three Sundays in July.
Liturgical Nerd Notes – Congregational Bible Year

“Jesus love me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…” This is first line of a very popular children’s hymn. It speaks to the truth that Jesus loves us and that the Bible illuminates this.
Where in the Bible does it say Jesus loves us? What else does the Bible tell us so?
At the end of John’s gospel he writes, “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
(John 20:30-31)
This is actually the purpose of the entire Bible, God’s written word. Its purpose is to tell the story of God and us. This is a treasure. That is why Martin Luther said that every memorized Bible verse is a coin in our coin purse. It is something of value we can take with us wherever we go.
When our youth go through confirmation classes they have a 2-year program to complete before they can affirm their baptism and become a voting member of the congregation. The years are split up into a bible year and a catechism year. This coming Sunday School year (Sep 11–May 21) we are going to have our own Bible year as a congregation.
Each week will revolve around a Bible verse for us to learn about and try to memorize, if possible. During Sunday School, Bible Study, and worship we will learn about the verse and what it teaches us about God. This gives us a chance to learn together no matter the age.
As we collect these verses as coins for our coin purse, some may come to know a coin in great depth (e.g. learning the context of a verse and its intention). Others may merely know what the coin (memorized verse) is worth (e.g. being able to recite the verse from memory). All in all, the goal of this program is to have our congregants fill their coin purses with the Bible’s good news and instruction.

We invite you to pray for the members of the church council. Kathy Atwell (3rd year), Michael Carlson (3rd Year), Tim Charlson (1st year), Bryan Johnson (6th year) vice-chair, Jeanine Lees (6th year), Emily Johnson (4th year), Linda Papoccia (6th year), Laura Rickey (2nd year), Nicholas Swanson (4th year), Jeannine Westerlund (3rd year), and Pastor Reed Lee Pedersen
May God bless them, and direct their deeds in peace, that they may be faithful servants of Christ.

It’s tick weather! Ticks get more active when it’s warm outside. Some carry diseases that can be passed on to you through their bite.

The most common disease ticks carry is called Lyme disease. It’s a bacterial infection that can cause serious health problems.

Each year, an estimated 300,000 people in the U.S. get Lyme disease. The number of cases has risen dramatically over the last 10 years. Symptoms of Lyme disease can include fever, headache, muscle or joint pain, and extreme fatigue.

People with Lyme disease usually get an expanding red rash that can resemble a bull’s-eye. If left untreated, the infection can spread and cause rashes in other parts of the body. Some people may develop nerve pain, arthritis, or heart problems. Most people fully recover when treated with antibiotics, especially when Lyme disease is diagnosed early.

The deer ticks that carry Lyme disease can be as small as a poppy seed. You might not even know you’ve been bitten. Preventing tick bites is the best defense against Lyme disease. You can protect yourself and your family by using insect repellent when going places where ticks are likely to live.

After coming indoors, check your clothing and gear for ticks. Shower within two hours of
coming indoors. Then conduct a full body check. Don’t forget to check your hair, where ticks may be harder to spot.
