In the midst of juggling a toddler, newborn baby, and the many tasks of a full-time call gearing up for September, I feel unfit to give words of encouragement. Instead, I want to share with you a poem from Joyce Rupp and words from Paul’s letter to the Romans.
my soul feels lean: poems of loss and restoration
“Leave Them Behind” by Joyce Rupp
Leave them behind.
Bid farewell to exaggerated emotions
dragging you down.
Let go of sharp-toothed thoughts
tempting you away from the face of love.
Cease judging the other unworthy
of your hysteric expectations.
Leave behind all
that harms, damages, or destroys
the delicate lotus blossom of love.
Open your heart to the good
flowing from the other.
Clear the mind to explore
what is of benefit.
No one contains all you want,
or need, or expect.
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

We invite you to pray for the members of the church council. Kathy Atwell (3rd year), Michael Carlson (3rd Year), Tim Charlson (1st year), Bryan Johnson (6th year) vice-chair, Jeanine Lees (6th year), Emily Johnson (4th year), Linda Papoccia (6th year), Laura Rickey (2nd year), Nicholas Swanson (4th year), Jeannine Westerlund (3rd year), and Pastor Reed Lee Pedersen
May God bless them, and direct their deeds in peace, that they may be faithful servants of Christ.
Council Highlights
  1. The easement lent to the parsonage sale did not include the sale of land. It only meant that we okayed their septic to runoff into that parcel.
  2. The church has bought a new lawn mower for $9,200. Purchase included a snow blade. It will be able to use our snow blower attachment.
  3. AC units in the sanctuary have been cleaned.
  4. We are still waiting on bids for the kitchen remodel.
  5. Outreach committee is hoping to host a movie night and game night along with doing Trunk of Treat.
  6. The council voted to have a special congregational meeting using money from the parsonage sale to pay for the mower and to finish the outside work on the church. There will also be a vote on whether or not to sell the easement parcel of land to the buyers of the parsonage. (This parcel of land would only be the piece of land we did not know we still owned.)

Parish Nurse Minute
Most people know someone who’s had cancer: a family member, a friend, a loved one. Who gets it can sometimes seem random. But there are many things you can do to reduce your risk.

Things to Ask Your Doctor About Reducing Your Risk ~
  • (If you smoke) What can you recommend to help me quit smoking?
  • Have I had all the recommended vaccinations to prevent cancer?
  • What cancer screening tests should I have at my age?
  • What dietary changes can I make to help reduce my risk of cancer?
  • How can I safely exercise to improve my health?
  • Does my family medical history put me at higher risk for cancer?
  • Is there anything else I should know about my cancer risk?

Prayer for First Day of SchooL
God of wisdom and might, be with all children as they begin a new school year. Bless them and their   teachers and staff. Give them strength and grace as their bodies grow; wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding; and peace and zeal to their hearts. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Attention: All students and Teachers
Teachers and students will soon begin a new school year. On Sunday, August 14 during our worship service we will have a blessing of  backpacks, students, and teachers. Please bring your backpacks that Sunday to be blessed. Teachers, feel free to bring laptops, PDA’s or any tool that you use for teaching to be blessed.
We hope that all of our teachers and students will be at worship on August 14 9:30 am to receive a blessing.
