The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill July 12, 2017 allowing the National Park Service to accept 44 acres of land - West Hills Farm - donated to the John Muir National Historic Site by John Muir Land Trust. The bill was introduced by Congressman Mark DeSaulnier earlier this year, and its next stop is the U.S. Senate.

“Our sincere thanks to Congressman DeSaulnier for such critical legislation. Muir often walked this land with his two daughters, Helen and Wanda. Expansion of the John Muir Historic Site will forever protect this beautiful property and allow future generations to share in the same delights as Muir's daughters," said JMLT Executive Director Linus Eukel.

Senator Kamala Harris has introduced companion legislation. Once passed in the Senate, NPS can officially accept the donation. Stay tuned!

Thank you to all who attended the official property dedication and public opening of newly expanded 1,185-acre Fernandez Ranch on Saturday, June 3. It was a great day!

The event featured a dozen speakers from partnering organizations who made the acquisition of this important land possible. They described an extraordinary community effort that required several years of dedicated work. After remarks, guests enjoyed cake, docent-led hikes on new trails, birding, and a beautiful day on the land.
