Resident Business Spotlight: Kailu by LiLi Tan

Inspired by female artisans in the Yangtze River Delta in China, KAILU is an AAPI woman-owned business based in San Francisco that creates handmade, artisan, and silk-filled Heritage Duvets and Open Road Portable Throws. “KAILU, which means ‘open road’ in Mandarin, started as a way to support a fading craft in the East and bring a transformative, natural product to the West,” says LiLi Tan, a fellow GreenTree resident and founder of KAILU. “We work closely with artisans who live in charming ancient water towns in the Yangtze River Delta, which is the start of the maritime Silk Road. Their families have passed down the sericulture tradition for generations, so each piece is thoughtfully handmade using thousands-year-old techniques.”

Where to find KAILU products: online at Kailu – KAILU (kailusilk.com), local fairs and events, Metropolitan Club in Union Square

Earthquake Preparedness Tips

This month, we wanted to remind you of the importance of being safe and ready for the potential of an earthquake emergency. Here are few key earthquake preparedness tips from the CDC:

  1. Create an evacuation plan, including items needed for your pet.
  2. Create an emergency kit including: sturdy shoes, gloves, a whistle, first-aid kit.
  3. Identify potential hazards in your home, such as large appliances or heavy items, and make sure they are secure.
  4. Know how to shut off your apartment utilities. Inquire with your RM about valves and switches if you are unsure.
