The IEA Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (PVPS) is one of the collaborative R&D Agreements established within the IEA and, since its establishment in 1993, the PVPS participants have been conducting a variety of joint projects in the application of photovoltaic conversion of solar energy into electricity.
2018 was a challenging year for PV development but it finally ended with positive results: more and more countries are adopting PV as a key energy source for this century. The IEA PVPS continues in 2019 to research the conditions for accelerated development of PV globally, from policies to sustainability, from grid integration to quality & reliability, from smart buildings with BIPV to electric mobility embedding PV. 2019 appears to be already on an upward trends for PV development, which will drive the IEA PVPS activities during the entire year.
The IEA PVPS published the following reports in the last months
National Survey Reports of PV Power Applications 2017
The latest National Survey Reports (NSR) are now available for viewing and downloading. As an important deliverable of Task 1, the NSRs provide an in-depth summary of PV policies, market development and industry data in key PV countries. They represent a source of reliable information for researchers, policymakers, energy experts or anyone interested in PV development.

Task 1 | TRENDS 2018 in Photovoltaic Applications 23rd Edition
This edition browses 23 years of PV installations in the IEA PVPS member countries and many others. Policies to support PV deployment, industry development and the integration of PV in the power sector are analyzed in depth in this report.

Task 14 | International R&D Project Collection – Advanced Cooperation between Distribution and Transmission Network Operation
This report is a collection of international R&D projects, with a focus on advanced TSO/DSO cooperation procedures. Therefore, 19 international R&D projects from the United States, Europe, and Japan have been identified and their objectives, key findings, and recommendations have been collected and summarized.

Task 15 | International definitions of “BIPV”
This report provides an overview of current building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) definitions. The definitions have been used in standards to specify their scope, by funding programmes to differentiate between classes of photovoltaic systems that were eligible for different subsidies, and in collaborative research projects and programmes to achieve a common working understanding of the topic.

Task 12 | Human Health Risk Assessment Methods for PV Part 1: Fire Risks
This report presents an analysis of potential human health impacts associated with chemical release from modules during a building fire for three PV technologies.

Task 13 | Photovoltaic Module Energy Yield Measurements: Existing Approaches and Best Practice
The report fills some of the normative gaps and helps anyone intending to start energy yield measurements of individual PV modules to obtain a technical insight into the topic, to be able to set‐up his own test facility or to better understand how to interpret results measured by third parties.

Task 15 | Inventory on Existing Business Models, Opportunities and Issues for BIPV
This report includes examples of various BIPV installations ranging from simple in‐roof residential installations to innovative facade designs on tertiary buildings.
