Resource of the Month
Toolkit to reduce CAUTI and other HAIs in long-term care facilities

AHRQ has released a new evidence-based toolkit to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and other healthcare-associated infections in long-term care settings. The toolkit contains guides, tools, slide sets, and videos to support implementation. The materials are publicly available and downloadable online.

Announcements
University of Cambridge announces new Improvement Research Institute

The University of Cambridge has been chosen to establish and run a new improvement research institute, the first of its kind in Europe. The University of Cambridge and their partners will work to strengthen the evidence-base for how to improve patient care, the institute will produce practical, high quality learning and will build research skills in the NHS, academia and beyond.

International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare 2017

The 2017 International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare will meet in April 2017 in London and in August 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.
 
Poster submissions for the Kuala Lumpur meeting are due May 2, 2017. Early registration ends June 20, 2017.

Cochrane Canada Symposium 2017

May 11-12, 2017—Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

The theme for this year's symposium is Evidence and Impact: Engaging consumers, practitioners, researchers and policy-makers. Cochrane Canada will also host trainings related to systematic reviews before and after the symposium.

Training Opportunities
The 2017 Training Institute for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health Announced

The application period for the 2017 Training Institute for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (TIDIRH) will open in early May, with applications due mid-June.

The institute will combine 3-month online courses and a 2-day in person training. Researchers with interests in studying D&I across health care, public health, and community settings are encouraged to apply.

Implementation—Theory and Application in Health Care

Fall 2017—Linköping, Sweden
 
Applications for the 2017 postgraduate course “Implementation—Theory and Application in Healthcare” are now being accepted. The course provides a broad introduction to the development of implementation science and the research conducted in this field and meets three times during the fall: September 20-21, October 10-12, and November 30.

Fireside Chat on Identifying Characteristics of High-Impact Implementation Science and Building Field Capacity

Implementing Smoking Cessation into Delivery of Lung Cancer Screening

As part of the VA Health Services Research and Development Cyberseminars series, Steven Zeliadt highlighted findings from a qualitative study which received HSR&D Paper-of-the-Year, and present findings from a recently completed pilot study of an intervention based on those findings, and describe the design of a recently funded pragmatic trial partnering with the VA Quitline that will further test this intervention.

Methodological Issues and Data Decisions in the Implementation of a Substance Use Disorders Intervention in the VA's Homeless Programs 

As part of the VA Health Services Research and Development Cyberseminars series, Megan McCullough and David Smelson highlighted the methodological decision-making, data sources and data driven decision-making that were used to evaluate the program and to operationalize innovative changes in team-based services for homeless Veterans.
