Congratulations to our 2021 graduates!
Congratulations to all of the ExCITe Center's 2021 graduates. We know this class has been exceptional in various aspects, but we wish you the best in all that is yet to come. Special thanks to our part-time and former co-op students who have helped us so much throughout the years and have now achieved a great milestone. The ExCITe family is very proud of all of your achievements!
  • Tammy Ogunranti received a 2021 Cooperative Education Student Award and graduated with honors. She will be starting a new position in the Philadelphia region. 
  • Elrod Owusu-Asumeng, past Creative Technologist co-op student and instructor for the Continuing STEM Education Academy (CSEA) just received his Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering. 
  • Wei Wei, who has been a graduate researcher for the ILLEST Lab for the past two years, will be starting a Ph.D. program at UCLA this Fall.
  • Olo Bello, who worked as an instructor for the CSEA program, just graduated and will be starting law school at Drexel this Fall.

Recap of our Virtual Young Dragons 2021!

The Center's first Virtual Young Dragons program concluded last week. For this summer, we developed brand new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities for West Philly middle schoolers based entirely in the virtual game world of Minecraft. Our campers collaborated online in learning how to build twisty mazes, roller coasters, and create music in Minecraft while exploring new gaming adventures.

Young Dragons is a partnership between Drexel's ExCITe Center and West Philadelphia Promise Neighborhood, providing innovative Summer STEAM activities developed specifically for middle school learners. All participants were rising 6th - 8th graders in the West Philadelphia Promise Zone.

Meet our new STAR Scholar!
Hi! My name is Rebecca Moroz and I'm a STAR Scholar working with the ExCITe Center and the Virtual Young Dragons Summer STEAM Camp this summer as a counselor and researcher. I'm a sophomore majoring in Software Engineering with a passion for STEAM education accessibility. In my free time, I like running and watching documentaries on Netflix and I'm a member of Drexel's Women in Computing Society.

Digital Navigators has distributed over 100 computers to local organizations and neighbors!

Keith Taylor: the ILLEST alumnus making cool steps (literally)
We are so excited to share the news that Keith Taylor (ILLEST's sneaker lab alumnus) has been accepted into the Converse Creative program!

Additionally, he was featured on Garrixon's Instagram account (@garrixonstudio) with an amazing IGTV with this thought process behind some of his sneaker projects. Check the video here.
