Ramping Up for Fall

Workshops, celebrations, and community!

Back to school, back to the hustle! As soon as school started, we had an unexpected rush on room rentals and many generous offers for workshop programming. Thank you all for your support! As we near our birthday (October 12th), we have been busy speaking at events, in radio interviews, in video interviews, and on podcasts. We are super excited to share what's coming up! We have highlighted a few events below. Check out The Space's Events page and follow us on Facebook to keep updated.

Contributions to This Year's VT Leadership Summit

Executive Director & Founder, Monique Priestley, had the honor and privilege of speaking at this year’s 2nd Annual Vermont Leadership Summit, put on by the Vermont Council on Rural Development. The transcript of Monique’s contribution to the opening “spark stories” can be found here. Monique later joined Sarah Waring of The Vermont Community Foundation and Bill Sayre of WDEV for a radio interview. Listen here. Monique also had the pleasure of sitting on a panel discussing entrepreneurship and coworking with leaders from LaunchVT, Valley.Works, Do North, and The Lightning Jar. We would like to thank VCRD and everyone involved!

4-Person Meeting Room Now Available

We now have a 4-person Meeting Room available to reserve at The Space On Main. This small team meeting/study room is most commonly reserved to record webinars/podcasts or for one-on-one consultations. More details can be found on our website.

Workshop: Building a Positive Work Climate

Monday, Sep 23rd 5:30–7:00pm Free Leadership Workshop "Everyday Actions that Build a Positive Work Climate" led by Douglass Teschner. RSVP requested. Are you employed at a great place to work -- or is there a lot of drama, gossip, or other distractions that demotivate staff and undermine productive work activities? If the latter, what influence could you apply to help bring positive change? Whether you are a regular employee or have a formal leadership role (as a business owner or supervisor), this 1.5-hour workshop will give you practical tools to help create a positive work climate that enhances employee motivation, work satisfaction, collaboration, and productivity!

Workshop: Growing Your Own with CWO

Monday, Oct 7th 5:30–7:00pm Now that it is legal to grow a limited number of marijuana plants in Vermont, it’s an appropriate time to learn the best way to produce a quality crop. This seminar offers details about all aspects of growing from germinating seeds or creating clones to harvesting and curing flowers (buds). Given the value of these plants, it’s important to learn good cultivation practices. Cold War Organics created their company based on the concept that when ideological, superficial clutter is removed, only the essence remains. With this simple model in mind, they designed CWO products to contain only the organic and mineral ingredients that matter. With over 38 years of combined experience in the field of natural plant nutrition, they decided it was time to take action and focus on just one very important plant. Tickets $15. Reserve your seat.

Looking for Members & Community Partners

After meeting with a leader of Code for BTV last month, attendees of our monthly Tech Meetup are taking the first steps towards forming a Code for America Brigade. Code for America Brigades are volunteer groups that collaborate with local government and community partners to put technology to work for the benefit of their local communities. Brigades meet regularly to build, share and learn about tools to create, support, and serve the public good. We're looking for designers, academic researchers, data journalists, activists, policy wonks, web developers and curious citizens who want to make the Upper Valley more just, equitable, transparent and delightful to live in through data, design and technology. Get in touch!

Startup Brews at Worthy Burger (SoRo)

Monday, Sep 30th 5:30–7:00pm Too often entrepreneurs work in silos. Imagine starting a business in a garage, on a farm, along a river, or at the end of a dirt road. Many Vermonters do...and it can be a very lonely place. But it doesn't have to be... Join Vermont's next generation of entrepreneurs, creators, innovators, and like-minded people interested in art, technology, and business who want to learn, teach, make things, start ventures, and meet new people. Our next event, "Startup Brews" is at Worthy Burger in South Royalton, VT. Come out of your silo for an evening of networking and fun that will turn your "startup blues" into "startup brews." RSVP here.
