[Contest] Mediterranean Water Heroes Youth Contest

Submission Jan 27 - Feb 25, 2017: Youth has an important role to play in working towards water security and increased water awareness. Young people are involved in innovative water-related projects and research around the Mediterranean, and are key in securing a more sustainable water future in the region. For all of these reasons, the Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) is organizing a youth-focused Mediterranean event entitled “Youth Innovating with Wastewater for a Sustainable Mediterranean”, on March 21-22 2017. The aim of this event is to focus on wastewater as an important means for combating water scarcity in the Mediterranean region. In the run-up to this event, the “Mediterranean Water Heroes” youth contest will offer young water activists from around the Mediterranean the opportunity to showcase their innovative work on wastewater and the circular economy.

[Workshop] Regional Mediterranean Workshop on Desalination, Non-Revenue Water Reduction and Public-Private Partnership under Water Scarcity

Marseille, France, 12-14 December 2016: The CMI and the Global Water Practice Unit of the World Bank Group, gathered world renowned water experts from the Mediterranean region, including governments’ delegations, private sector representatives, donors and NGOs. The participants discussed knowledge exchange between countries of the Mediterranean region confronted with water scarcity and learnt from best practices both within the region and beyond.

[Workshop] Good Financial Governance in the Context of Forced Displacement

Eschborn, Germany, 26-27 January 2017: The CMI was invited to participate in the Good Financial Governance in the context of Forced Displacement Learning workshop organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). During the event the CMI brought in the perspectives of its MENA region host communities members regarding the topic of financial governance.

 

 

[Coordination Meeting] Mobilizing the Diaspora

 
Virtual, 13 January 2017: In preparation for the upcoming diaspora forum under the theme, “Supporting Syrian Diaspora Business” the CMI met with multiple partners involved in the refugees’ and mobility program to discuss the sessions as well as the expected outcomes of the event.

[Coordination Meeting] Refugees and Host Communities Program

Virtual, 25 January 2017: In preparation for the 2nd annual Peer- to-Peer learning event for communities hosting refugees’ the CMI invited multiple partners to discuss the content and design of the event. This workshop will focus on “Improving local opportunities for host communities and refugees”. It aims to discuss local economic development and labor market inclusion, to capitalize on the results of the Host Municipalities Network activities throughout the year and to strengthen the regional CMI Host municipality network.

Virtual, 05 January 2017:  The CMI convened multiple urban partners to discuss forthcoming joint activities. During the meeting partners endorsed the finalized CMI Stocktaking Paper on Territorial Cohesion, debated the Concept Note for the Regional Workshop on Territorial Cohesion of the CMI Urban Hub and discussed the format of the new urban Newsletter.
