City Council hears business community's priorities for Covid-19 relief funds
Safety, cleanliness, placemaking and employees returning to Downtown are among the top issues the city of Sacramento needs to tackle to help small businesses recover from pandemic closures. That was the takeaway from a series of workshops the city held with the business community on the best use for part of the $112 million in new federal Covid-19 relief funds the city expects to receive over the next two years.

Nico Wine bringing tasting bar, retail shop to Ice Blocks
A wine bar with a retail component is the newest business joining Midtown Sacramento's Ice Blocks project. Nico Wine is expected to open this summer, said owner Nico Corich. The business will be at 1710 R St., Suite 180, next to Pressed Juicery and across from Philz Coffee. Nico Wine will fill about 454 square feet inside, and 200 square feet outside, Corich said.

Mask Recommendation in place for Sacramento County
As COVID-19 cases increased in Sacramento County over the last few weeks, we joined over half of the state as County public health officials implemented an indoors mask recommendation regardless of vaccination status. It is strongly recommended that Sacramento County residents continue to wear masks in indoor settings where vaccination verification is not required and the vaccination status of others is unknown.

Familiar names plan project at former Shoki Ramen site on R Street
Well-known restaurateurs are bringing a new concept to a space on R Street in Sacramento. City records describe a proposal to add shipping containers to an existing restaurant building at 1201 R St. That building was previously occupied by Shoki Ramen House. When the business closed in May, operators said they were passing the location along "to someone that has great plans and loves this location as much as we do."

Building permit submitted for housing project at 12th and Q streets
Mostly unused parking on the R Street Corridor in Sacramento could turn into housing by the end of next year, with building permit applications submitted for what would be a 51-unit project. According to the city's Development Tracker website, the city is reviewing a permit application for 1208 Q St. for electrical systems, air quality and more, for a project known as 1208 Q St.

SMUD Proposed 2022-2023 rate changes
The proposal includes the following increases for all customers:
- 1.5% rate increase effective March 1, 2022
- 2% rate increase effective January 1, 2023
The proposed rate increases are well below the forecasted rate of inflation and support SMUD’s commitment to keep rate increases at or below inflation through 2030.
