MIDP Welcomes New Faces
We are so excited to officially welcome the newest class of the Medical Innovators Development Program. The class of 2024  recently began their first year of medical school! We wish them the best of luck as they begin the semester. We are also excited to announce two new course directors who will be leading our third-year IDEA Lab course, Stryker Warren (left) and Ryan Buckley (right). Ryan currently serves as the Director of Faculty & Career Development for the Section of Hospital Medicine and the Medical Director of the new acute care medicine unit on 6 Round Wing here at Vanderbilt Medical Center where he hopes to use his QI and innovation background to build a learning healthcare microsystem.
Stryker currently serves as a master mentor in residence at Vanderbilts Innovation Center and has an extensive background in healthcare consulting.

Rising Fourth Years Adrian Sanchez and Nicky Grimes develop a non- invasive device to reduce the need for surgery in ocular melanoma cases
Rising fourth years in VUSM’s Medical Innovators Development Program (MIDP), John “Nicky” Grimes, Ph.D., and Adrian Sanchez, Ph.D., are in the process of seeking patent protection for a device they developed this year to reduce the need for invasive surgery in advanced cases of ocular melanoma. MIDP Adrian Sanchez awarded $10,000 scholarship from the AMA Foundation called Physicians of Tomorrow 
Adrian was awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the AMA Foundation called the Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship.
Each medical school in the country can nominate two students and a total of 20 nationwide are given.

 
 
MIDP Student Sai Rajagopalan teamed up with experts across the world to bridge a specific gap in maternal-fetal care during COVID-19.  
Social distancing over the past four months has challenged medical students across the country to adapt. Some have developed innovative solutions for digital learningclinical work, and student leadership in the time of COVID-19. Some, like third-year MIDP student Sai S.V. Rajagopalan, have dedicated their energies to hacking. Read more. 
MIDP Student Pulak Goswami Post Doc Manuscript published 
Pulak recently heard back from the reviewers at (Nature) Scientific Reports and they have accepted the manuscript that resulted from his post-doc. The project is based on automatically detecting variants in the Circle of Willis using ToF MRA images. More information coming soon.
