Introducing the SCARS Rescue Centre in Morinville

We are so pleased to share our big news! SCARS is expanding operations. We have leased a facility in Morinville that will serve as a rescue centre for companion animals. This facility will save lives by allowing us to better accommodate the growing number of urgent requests for animal intake. But to officially open to animal intake, we need your help.

Previously used as a boarding facility and right next door to the Morinville Veterinary Clinic, the building is already set up for animal housing but needs some additions and minor renovations before we can begin using it. Our goal is to raise $30,000 for the purchase of:

  • outdoor kennel fencing for dogs
  • veterinary cages to house cats
  • a commercial quality clothes washer
  • sea cans to store supplies
  • a security/surveillance system
  • miscellaneous items for interior cosmetic updates

We have started the cosmetic updates and hope to be ready to begin animal intake by August 1, but we may need to extend that date.

This 3,800 square foot facility with adjacent outdoor space provides more options to help animals. It provides a place where the public can meet adoptable animals by appointment, a quiet place for animals to recover from surgeries, and new opportunities for volunteers to interact with animals. A highlight of the centre is that it will save the lives of pets who need urgent placement but have special needs, such as pets that are pregnant or already have litters. To donate or learn more, click here.

We need adoptions!

We can't stress how important adoptions are right now. As we hurry to open our new facility, we know there are animals that cannot wait. They need help now. Our intake is currently limited to almost entirely emergency cases.

See all of our adoptable animals online or you can meet some of our adoptable pets at this weekend's adoption events.

Featured "Look at Me Now" Story

Hey SCARS! I just wanted to say thanks so much for taking care of Sodapop until now and uniting us with him/picking our application. We’ve renamed him Ryker (after one of our favourite Star Trek characters) and we absolutely love him to pieces! He was definitely the missing piece our family was looking for.  After only two days he was already comfortable with us snuggling him. He even lets his daddy and I pick him up to rock-a-bye baby him. He’s such a sweet pup. Thank you once again, ya’ll do such good and important work and we’re so grateful to have him.
