Are you as roasty and toasty as we are? But the work never stops even in the heat! Thanks for your support and donations. We couldn't do our work without you!

This month we rescued 44 dogs and 104 cats/kittens and 144 animals were adopted to their furever homes.

Rescue Stories - This is why we do what we do!

A SCARS volunteer got a call about a sick puppy and immediately knew she had to rush Bruno into the vet. He tested positive for Canine Parvovirus. Parvo can be treated and most often a puppy can survive. However, Bruno is very thin, very dehydrated and was pooping blood. He also had some head twitching that we hope is not distemper. On top of ALL of that, he has a terrible cough and his chest sounds like pneumonia. The good news is that Bruno gets better every single day! We are thrilled he’s a fighter!
Thank you to everyone who supported SCARS this month. Bruno is on the mend and not yet available for adoption. To donate directly to Bruno – please go to www.scarscare.ca/donate and add "Bruno" as a memo with your donation.
Sara is feeling a little lighter, thanks to the wonderful Lloydminster Vet Office who completed a surgery to remove a large mammary tumor. The staff say she is a very sweet girl. She needs time to recover but will be available for adoption soon.
Abandoned, alone and hungry! A litter of kittens was found off the side of a highway. We are giving them the loving care they need and deserve. They are getting stronger every day.
This is Finnegan. 🐶 💕We received a call about a pup that had been spotted not using his leg. We knew it was imperative to get him the medical care he needed as soon as possible. Once he arrived at the vet, X-rays revealed a fracture in his leg. Finnegan’s leg was put in a splint to help it leg heal properly. He is currently at a SCARS foster home where he is getting lots of loving attention while he heals!

Volunteer Feature

Thank you and farewell to Ronalee. As a volunteer driver, she drove thousands of kilometres to assist with animal intake and rescue operations. She recently moved to Prince Edward Island to start a new chapter in her life. We, and the animals, miss her already! Bon voyage to an amazing lady!

Second Chances – Going Down This Road Again Fundraiser

In 2019, SCARS provided images for the video for Bob Donaldson’s single “Second Chances (Going Down This Road Again)” to bring awareness to animal rescue.

Now Bob is trying to raise $75,000 in support of SCARS with the support of Callioux Law. They are proud to support this cause that is close to their hearts. Callioux Law is a law firm that specializes in family law and child welfare and they have their own service dog! Fozzie helps comfort children and clients of all ages.

Thanks to Callioux Law’s support, starting on June 14, you will hear promotions of this campaign on CISN 103.9/630 CHED/Global Edmonton!

They have also teamed up with Canada Helps to collect donations and make it easy for supporters to receive a tax receipt! Click here to learn more and to donate!

Do you feed your dog and/or cat Nutram?

From now until December 31, 2021 when you purchase Nurtram dog or cat food from G&E Pharmacy, Nutram will donate $1 to SCARS! Nutram retailers like G&E Pharmacy can pick their favourite charity for this fundraiser, and G&E chose SCARS! We are grateful for their support.
Have you joined ResQwalk yet? It’s free, and the Best Friends Animal Society distributes about $1,000 U.S. every month based on the number of miles you walk. All you have to do is download the app and designate "Second Chance Animal Rescue Society" as the rescue you want to support. When you walk the dog (or anything else) just start a new walk, and your phone will keep track of how far you go. To download the app, go the App Store or Google Play

Tribute

Hello SCARS, We adopted Bailey (also his SCARS name) in October 2009 and lost him in March due to old age. We knew right away that we had struck puppy gold with him as Bailey was the sweetest pup ever. He never got mad about anything, just loved to love and be loved. It was an absolute joy to watch my kids grow up with such an adoring pup and share so many adventures and milestones with him. I truly believe Bailey was the shining example of a rescue dog because he knew he was safe and loved and never seemed to take that for granted. His passing has left a huge hole in our family and I know we will all miss him forever.
